Alberta Boasts Canada’s Most Expensive Destination

July 10, 2013

Jasper has just earned the notoriety of being Canada’s most expensive destination this summer. This Rocky Mountain locale in western Alberta took the title on the basis of its lodging prices. After comparing all Canadian destinations for this summer's main travel period of July 1 to August 31, a new survey from CheapHotels.org has declared Jasper the most costly.

The average cost of each location's cheapest available double room served as the benchmark for the rankings. As a result, travelers should understand that the prices shown in the survey reflect the minimum amount they will have to pay to lodge at a certain destination. The survey took into consideration only those hotels with a rating of two stars or higher.

About the Methodology

For every destination in Canada with a minimum of 10 regular hotels, the price for the cheapest available double room was established for the following time periods: July 5–7, July 9–11, July 19–21, July 23–25, August 2–4, August 6–8, August 16–18 and August 21–23.

Based on this data, an average price was calculated for each destination, resulting in the rankings above. Only hotels rated two stars or higher and with at least an average TripAdvisor rating were included in the survey. Moreover, only hotels located in or less than one mile from the city center or beach were considered for the respective destinations. All prices were established between June 17 and June 28 via the hotel comparison website Kayak.
