AQUAMARINA SUITES, Playa del Carmen

The hotel sits on Calle 48, between 5th and 10th Avenues, placing you 200 metres from the start of the lively 5th Avenue strip and 6 blocks from a public beach. Downtown Playa del Carmen is about a 15-minute walk south. The immediate area is safe and quiet but the street itself is not particularly scenic and can be under construction. Numerous restaurants, bars, and convenience stores are within a 1-2 minute walk, including an Oxxo at 15 m. A 20-minute walk reaches the main nightlife zone. There is no external sign, so use GPS coordinates or the exact address to find the entrance.

Units range from standard queen suites to deluxe queen suites, with one-room studio layouts. Each has a small kitchenette equipped with a fridge, stove, cookware, and coffee maker. Beds are generally described as comfortable, but some mattresses are old with protruding springs. Bathrooms are large and clean when maintained, though hot water pressure can be inconsistent and some showers are lukewarm. A common issue is persistent dampness and musty odour, especially in rooms with interior windows (facing the corridor) that allow no natural light or ventilation. Rooms may feel smaller than photos suggest. Air conditioning units are often noisy. Furniture and decor are dated in many units, though some rooms have been recently renovated. Soundproofing is poor; noise from neighbouring rooms and the street can be heard. For a better experience, request a renovated room away from the road and with an exterior window.

Breakfast can be ordered for a flat fee of $15 USD, offering a choice of three set menu items. The selection is basic and can become monotonous after a couple of days. For more variety or to save money, the fully equipped kitchenette in each room includes a stove, fridge, cookware, and utensils for preparing your own meals. The surrounding area is rich with dining options within a 2-minute walk, including Marvin's Burgers, Pizza Italia, El Sangha-Rito, and several local Mexican spots. There is no on-site restaurant or bar beyond breakfast service.

The property does not have a pool, gym, or spa. However, guests receive complimentary sunbeds and umbrellas at Martina Beach Club, located a 3-minute walk away. Access to the beach club's pool requires an additional fee (approx. 500 pesos per person). Off-site activities available nearby at extra cost include diving, snorkelling, and a water park. The hotel provides free sun umbrellas for use at the beach. Live sport events are broadcast for free in the common area.

Wi-Fi is free throughout the building. Daily housekeeping is included, with towels replaced regularly; sheet changes occur every two days. Luggage storage is available free of charge for early arrivals or late departures. A laundry service is offered for an additional fee (approx. 120 MXN per load). The tour desk can arrange excursions and airport shuttle transfers (fee applies). Safety features include CCTV in common areas, key access, and a free safety deposit box (note: the in-room safe is compact). Reception hours are 10:30-18:30; after that, no staff are present. Payment is accepted in cash or credit card (2.5% surcharge); some bookings require a PayPal deposit. No parking is available on-site. Pets are allowed on request with possible charges.
