MAGNUSON HOTEL COLUMBIA, Columbia

The hotel sits on a main road with easy car access and free on-site parking. The surrounding area has a range of dining choices from fast-food chains like Sub and Hardee's to full-service spots like Harbor Inn and Kiki's Chicken & Waffles, all within a short walk or very brief drive. The location is heavily car-oriented; foot traffic feels unsafe, especially after dark, due to reported drug activity and loitering.

The hotel's rooms are in very poor condition. Carpets are sticky, walls have holes, and many rooms lack hot water, have non-functional air conditioning, broken lights, and televisions with no service. Cockroach infestations are severe - boric acid powder is visible in corners. Bedding is not reliably clean, and mattresses and pillows are lumpy and uncomfortable. Renovation efforts are partial and do not make rooms safe or comfortable. Some rooms are accessible only via a dark, blocked-off stairwell. For a safe stay, expect to bring your own bedding and cleaning supplies.

The hotel states a continental breakfast is offered, but it is regularly absent - no food, cups, or service. To eat, walk 0.5 km to McDonald's or Sub, or 0.5 km to LongHorn Steakhouse, Harbor Inn, or Kiki's Chicken & Waffles. There is no in-house restaurant or bar beyond the breakfast area. Plan to eat every meal off-site.
