The hotel occupies a quiet residential street but is surrounded by dining and nightlife on Hardman Street, Seel Street and Concert Square. The Anglican Cathedral is a few minutes' walk away and provides the nearest secure parking at £6 for 24 hours. Lime Street Station is a 10-15 minute walk, and Liverpool One shopping and the Albert Dock are within 15 minutes on foot. The immediate area has numerous bars, restaurants and takeaways, including City Fish & Chips and a Subway on Hardman Street. Taxis to the city centre are inexpensive (around £2-£3).

Rooms vary widely by size, layout and condition. Many are very large: some feature original fireplaces, grand pianos, separate sitting rooms or kitchenettes with a fridge and washing machine. Double and twin configurations are common, and several rooms accommodate up to four guests with a double and two single beds. Bathrooms are generally spacious but can be dated; showers have been reported as low-pressure or temperamental, and hot water supply is not always reliable. Street-facing rooms and basement rooms suffer more from noise, while top-floor rear rooms are noticeably quieter. Some ground-floor rooms near reception hear hallway activity early in the morning. Air conditioning is not available; heating can be hard to control. Single-glazed sash windows let in street noise, and the building has no lift. The accommodation is best suited to guests prioritising space, location and price over modern luxury.

A continental breakfast is available at an extra charge (approx £5-£6 per person) and is delivered to your room at a pre-selected time. It typically includes cereal, yoghurt, fruit juice, a muffin or croissant, butter, jam and a piece of fruit. A cooked breakfast is not offered. There is no dining room or bar on the property. The surrounding streets are well served by restaurants, cafés, pubs and takeaways, including The Florist, Roscoe Head, MacKenzie's Whisky Bar and numerous options around Bold Street and the Philharmonic area.
