BLUE CASTLE GUESTHOUSE, Malaga

The guesthouse is set on a peaceful hillside street, about 3 km from the airport and a 15-minute walk downhill to the Alcazaba and Picasso Museum. The walk back involves a steady uphill return, so evening taxis are a practical option (approx. €7 to the centre). La Malagueta Beach is 2 km away. A local bus line serves the area but with limited frequency after about 19:30, so walking or ride-hailing is the main option. The neighbourhood is calm, with a handful of bars and restaurants within a five-minute walk.

Room options range from compact double rooms with shared bathrooms to larger family rooms with private facilities. Rooms facing the garden offer quieter stays, while ground-floor rooms with patios or terraces provide direct garden access but may feel less private. Some rooms are small for two people and may feel cramped for longer stays. The building is an older converted home, so sound insulation between rooms is minimal - you can hear doors opening and closing and conversation from common areas. Air conditioning is available, and each room has a wardrobe and desk. Hot water can be limited during busy periods. Towels and bed linen are provided, but quality and freshness vary. Several rooms have garden, mountain or quiet street views.

The shared kitchen is fully equipped with a hob, kettle, fridge, and cooking essentials, making self-catering straightforward. Complimentary tea, coffee, sugar, and breakfast cereals are always available. The garden has picnic tables and a barbecue area for outdoor meals. Several restaurants and tapas bars are within a short walk, including El Caldero, Aliole Taperia, and Nerva Cafe Restaurante.

The seasonal outdoor pool is small and best suited for cooling off rather than swimming. The garden is the main leisure asset, with sun loungers, shaded seating areas, and a public bath. Massage treatments - including back, head, foot, full body, and couples massage - are available at an extra cost. Board games are also provided for indoor relaxation.

Wi-Fi is free in all areas and generally reliable. The shared lounge has a TV and board games. Daily cleaning covers the kitchen, bathrooms, and garden.
