The capsules are made of plastic and are not soundproofed; all noise from conversations, locker doors, footsteps, and snoring travels clearly through the thin walls and door gaps. Light also leaks around the door seal, so an eye mask is useful. Upper capsules transmit movement and creaking to the lower ones when someone moves. Ventilation relies on an internal fan that can be noisy and draws warm air from near the ceiling, causing the capsule to become stuffy. The mattress is firm, which suits some but can feel hard. A capsule fan and a common-area air-conditioning unit are present, but the thermostat in the common area is set at 25°C and taped over to prevent adjustment.
