CRAIGLOCKHART LODGE, Edinburgh

The property sits in a peaceful neighbourhood, a short drive from the A720 bypass, offering a quiet base away from the city bustle. A bus stop with four regular routes (including the #4) is located directly outside the lodge, providing a 30-minute journey to the city centre and direct access to museums and Edinburgh Castle on foot from the drop-off point. Murrayfield Stadium is 3 km away, the zoo is a 10-15 minute drive, and the Pentland Hills are accessible by a 10-minute bus or car ride. Several supermarkets (Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Morrisons) are within a few minutes' drive, and the canal-side cycle route is nearby for recreational cycling.

The lodge provides two separate bedrooms (with a total of three beds) and a lounge with a sofa and dining area, offering ample space for a family of 3-4. The fully equipped kitchen includes an oven, grill, hot plate, microwave, toaster, fridge, coffee machine, and a full supply of crockery and utensils. Carpeted and parquet floors, electric heating, and a welcome pack with milk, bread, biscuits and often a bottle of prosecco or wine add a homely feel. The private bathroom features a shower, hairdryer and free toiletries. Plenty of storage - hooks, mirrors, drawers and closets with quality hangers - plus plug adaptors and a flat-screen TV. A patio leads to a private terrace with garden views and outdoor dining furniture; the quiet location makes it easy to relax outside.

The lodge is set up for self-catering with a full kitchenette (oven, hot plate, microwave, toaster, fridge, coffee machine) and a dining table. A welcome pack typically includes bread, milk, biscuits and often a bottle of wine or prosecco. There is no on-site restaurant, bar or breakfast service, but the central bus routes and nearby supermarkets (Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda within a few minutes' drive) make stocking up convenient. The terrace and garden provide a pleasant spot for outdoor dining.

The lodge offers a private terrace and a well-kept garden with outdoor dining furniture and BBQ facilities, ideal for relaxing after a day out. The surrounding area provides free off-site hiking and fishing, while canoeing, golf (within 3 km), mini golf, squash, tennis and bowling are available at an additional charge. The canal-side cycle route is near the property, and Pentland Hills is a 10-minute journey by bus or car for more extensive walking.

The property provides free high-speed Wi-Fi (125 Mbps, suitable for streaming 4K and video calls) and free on-site parking for one vehicle (no reservation needed). Check-in is from 14:00 and check-out by 11:00. The lodge is non-smoking throughout and has smoke alarms and a fire extinguisher. The host provides a thorough welcome with local tips and a welcome pack; luggage storage can be arranged if needed. There is no lift (ground-floor unit with two steps at the entrance), making it suitable for most visitors but potentially challenging for wheelchair users. No pets are allowed.
