SO PADDINGTON HOTEL, London

Paddington Station is a two-minute walk, providing direct rail links to Heathrow Airport via the Express, and Underground connections to central London. Hyde Park is a five-minute walk away, ideal for morning runs or concert access. The hotel sits on Norfolk Square, a quiet garden square. A wide selection of restaurants, including Levantine, London Street Brasserie, and Paramount Lebanese Kitchen, are within a 0.5 km radius. The area is well-served by buses and taxis, making it a practical base for exploring London. However, the immediate vicinity has some litter and cigarette butts, and the hotel's entrance can feel unkempt. The proximity to the train tracks means there is constant train noise, particularly in lower-floor rooms.

Accommodation is spread over five floors with no lift; the top-floor rooms require climbing up to 76 stairs. Rooms are compact, with particularly small bathroom cubicles that can be difficult for larger guests. Carpeted floors and standard furniture are provided, but many rooms show signs of wear: stained carpets, peeling wallpaper, damaged furniture, and broken fixtures such as lamps, toilet seats, and curtain rails. Mould is common in bathrooms, and cleanliness can be inconsistent-dirty bedding, long hairs, and dust are present. Pest issues, including cockroaches and bedbugs, exist in some rooms. Noise from train vibrations, plumbing, and neighbouring rooms is a frequent concern. Windows are single-glazed, letting in street noise and light. Some basement-level rooms have limited natural light or no window. Air conditioning units are present but may not always be functional; some rooms rely on fans. Requesting a room change upon arrival is advisable, as conditions vary by room.

WiFi is free throughout the property and generally reliable. The 24-hour front desk can assist with late check-in, luggage storage (fee applies), and fax/photocopying. Daily housekeeping is not included in the room rate but can be arranged for an extra fee. A shared lounge/TV area is available for guests. Security features include CCTV in common areas, smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, key card access, and a security alarm. The property is adults-only and entirely non-smoking. No parking is provided; the nearest public car parks are a short walk. Laundry services are not offered. Guests with mobility concerns should note the lack of a lift and the steep stairs.
