THC GRAN VIA HOSTEL, Madrid

The hostel sits on a side street just off Madrid's most famous boulevard, Gran Vía, putting the city's main shopping, entertainment and cultural attractions within easy reach. Puerta del Sol is 650 metres away, and the trendy bars and restaurants of Chueca are a 3-minute walk, with Malasaña also close by. Gran Vía metro station is a 2-minute walk, providing direct links across the city and to the airport via a change at Nuevos Ministerios. A supermarket and multiple dining options are immediately outside the door. For those arriving by car, parking is not available on site but there are public garages nearby, including one directly opposite.

Rooms are available in several configurations: twin/double rooms with private bathroom equipped with bath and shower, double rooms with shared bathroom, single rooms, Junior Suites with a large layout, and superior double rooms that include a refrigerator. All rooms feature air conditioning, heating, an electric kettle, a flat-screen TV, and either parquet or soundproofed walls on some categories. Sizes vary significantly - many are compact, with some measurably smaller than the photos suggest, and storing a large open suitcase can be challenging in the smallest rooms. Noise is a consistent factor: sound insulation between rooms and from the hallway is poor, and older windows let in street noise, so rooms overlooking the inner courtyard tend to be quieter. The Junior Suite and some superior rooms are on higher floors without a lift. Bathroom dimensions can be tight, especially the shower cubicle in standard rooms. Daily housekeeping includes bed making and towel changes; hair dryers and irons are available at the front desk on request.

The hostel does not serve breakfast, but the immediate area is rich with dining choices. Dozens of cafés, casual eateries, and takeaway spots are within a minute or two on foot along Gran Vía and the side streets, including several well-rated brunch places. Restaurants such as StreetXo (0.5 km), Hattori Hanzo (0.5 km), and Burnout (0.5 km) are nearby, as is the Sanissimo Gran Via health food spot. A supermarket right outside the door is useful for stocking up on snacks and drinks. Guests who wish to eat in can order food delivery to the hostel. There is no guest pantry or kitchen for self-catering, but some room categories (superior double and Junior Suite) include a small refrigerator.

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the building and is reliable enough for streaming and general use. The 24-hour front desk can provide tourist information, arrange taxis, and process the free guided walking tour of Madrid (in English and Spanish). Luggage storage is offered free of charge before check-in and after checkout, a practical benefit for travellers with late flights. Housekeeping is performed daily, with bed making and fresh towels.
