HOTEL GALILEO, Florence

Set in a lively neighbourhood with a constant flow of pedestrian and vehicle traffic, the location puts you within a 10-minute walk of the Santa Maria Novella train station and a 1-2 minute walk from the Duomo and Mercato Centrale. The area is lined with shops, restaurants and bars, making it convenient for evening outings. The tram stop is about 700 metres away - suitable for linking to the airport without a car. The street can be busy and noisy, especially in the evenings, but soundproofed windows in the rooms help. For day trips, the Fortezza da Basso conference centre is also within 10 minutes on foot.

Room categories include Single Use (8 m2, queen bed), Double French Bed (17 m2, queen), Standard Double (23 m2 with a double or twins), Superior Double (25 m2 with extra space and some with outdoor areas), Triple (27 m2) and Quadruple (30 m2 up to 4 guests). All rooms have a private bathroom (some with bathtub, some with shower), air conditioning, minibar, free Wi-Fi, a safe, and a flat-screen satellite TV. Soundproofed windows reduce street noise, but light sleepers may still prefer a courtyard-facing room. Beds are generally comfortable, though a few mattresses have been noted as soft or creaky. Renovations are underway in some rooms - newer bathrooms are modern, while older bathrooms may feel dated. Some rooms are on the compact side, particularly the basic doubles.

Breakfast runs from about 7:30 to 10:00, offering croissants, homemade cakes, toast, preserves, boiled eggs, cheeses, meats, fresh fruit, yoghurt, juices and coffee. The breakfast room is small (seating about 10 people). The hotel does not have its own restaurant, but the surrounding streets are packed with trattorias, diners and cafes-many within 300 metres. In-room breakfast is also available. Gluten-free alternatives can be pre-requested.

Facilities include a lift, 24-hour front desk and 24-hour security. Luggage storage is free and can be used before check-in or after checkout. A shared lounge/TV area is on the ground floor. Daily housekeeping is included, and laundry service (with a small surcharge) is offered - a coin-operated laundry is also a 2-minute walk away. The hotel provides free soap and shampoo, but no wheelchair ramp. American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club, Maestro and CartaSi are accepted. Fax/photocopying is available for a fee. Pet bowls can be provided.
