HOTEL GRUNEWALD, Berlin

The hotel sits at the edge of the Grunewald forest, directly alongside the Wannsee and Nikolasee lakes, and is a short walk from the Strandbad Wannsee beach. The S-Bahn station Nikolassee is about 5-7 minutes on foot, providing connections to the city centre (approx. 25 minutes) and to the Südbahnhof (ICE) and exhibition grounds in around 15 minutes. For drivers, the hotel is directly accessible via the motorway and offers free on-site parking without a reservation. Several restaurants, a fast-food outlet and a shop are located in the immediate vicinity.

Rooms are equipped with a private bathroom (shower and hairdryer), TV with cable channels, wardrobe and heating. Flooring is carpeted throughout. The rooms are spacious enough for a practical stay but the decor is from the 1970s and shows signs of age: worn furniture, stained carpets in some units, and occasional maintenance issues such as stuck windows or noisy minibars. Rooms facing the rear (towards the Grunewald) are noticeably quieter than those overlooking the parking area or road. The front-facing rooms may hear traffic from the motorway at night. A request for a room away from the street is advisable for light sleepers.

The hotel's restaurant serves hearty German dishes with an extensive range of options, and the bar offers drinks throughout the day. A 24-hour vending machine for drinks and snacks is also available. The breakfast buffet costs €5 per person and includes bread, pastries, cold cuts, cheese and hot drinks; it is generally well-stocked but can be simple in selection. The breakfast room can become busy, but the extended breakfast hours help reduce crowding. For evening meals outside the restaurant's hours, several local eateries are within walking distance.

The hotel does not have a spa or swimming pool on site. However, the Strandbad Wannsee is only about 150 metres from the hotel, providing a sandy beach and lake swimming in summer. The surrounding Grunewald forest offers walking and cycling paths, and the nearby lakes are suitable for a day out in warm weather. The children's playground on the property and the family-friendly atmosphere make it a practical base for families wanting to enjoy outdoor recreation.

Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. On-site parking is free and does not require a reservation. The 24-hour front desk provides invoice processing and luggage storage at no extra charge. Other services include a safety deposit box, packed lunches, meeting/banquet facilities (for a fee), and a mini-market on site. The lift provides access to upper floors, though it has been reported as occasionally out of service. Pets are allowed on request (€5/night for one dog, €10 for two). Accessibility features are limited; guests with mobility concerns should confirm the lift status before arrival.
