HOTEL SCHMIDT, Hamburg

The hotel sits in a quiet residential area with tree-lined streets, just 1 km from the A7 motorway and directly opposite Othmarschen station. The S-Bahn provides a fast 15-minute connection to Hamburg Hauptbahnhof and direct routes to the airport. The River Elbe is 2 km away, reachable via a pleasant 20-minute walk through upmarket neighbourhoods. The hotel also offers free on-site parking, making it equally suitable for car-based travel. Local amenities include several restaurants and shops within a 5-minute walk.

Rooms are individually furnished and some are notably spacious, though many lack modern updates: interiors often show worn carpets, dated wallpaper and squeaky floors. Bathrooms are generally basic; some have been renovated, but others report cleanliness issues, mould or very compact dimensions. Rooms facing the main road or the pub opposite can be noisy, while garden-facing or rear units are quieter. Top-floor rooms with sloping ceilings can be cramped and may have limited standing room in the shower. Confirm the room type and location when booking, and if possible, request a room away from the street for a better night's sleep.

The breakfast buffet is included in the room price and offers bread and rolls, a selection of cold cuts and cheese, cereals, yoghurt, fruit, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, coffee, tea and juice. The buffet is generally refilled, though later arrivals may find fewer choices. The breakfast room itself is a highlight - classically decorated with dark wood, satin and velvet, providing a cosy atmosphere with views of the garden. There is no on-site restaurant or bar, but several dining options are within walking distance, including a pub 30 metres away and sushi, Italian and German restaurants within 300-500 metres.

The hotel has a garden with a sunbathing area, providing a quiet outdoor space. Horse riding stables and golf courses (within 3 km) are available off-site. The garden is a practical spot to relax after a day of travel or sightseeing, though it may feel unkempt at times. For a more active outdoor experience, the Elbe riverbank is a 20-minute walk away.

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, though strength can be weak in top-floor rooms. Free private parking is provided on site without reservation. Daily housekeeping is included, but its consistency has been variable - some rooms are not serviced during short stays, and guests may need to request fresh towels or toilet paper from reception. There is no lift, so rooms on upper floors require climbing stairs. Vending machines offer drinks and snacks. The reception is staffed until 20:00; after-hours check-in uses a key safe. Accepted payment methods: Visa, Maestro, EC-Card and MasterCard. There is no luggage storage room.
