STRAVEN GUESTHOUSE, Edinburgh

Straven Guesthouse, located in a historic Victorian home, provides bed and breakfast. Certain units feature a private bathroom with a shower and a hairdryer. The ground floor bedrooms have shower seats available on request. Non-slip mats are available on request. There is a sea-view room on the first floor with a superking size bed, a fridge cooler, and a view of the sea. Rooms include free Wi-Fi, a USB charge port, wireless phone charging, a flat-screen TV (with BBC iPlayer and Netflix), tea/coffee making facilities, a hairdryer, a radio alarm, central heating, and double glazing. The double room has a carpeted floor, heating, a flat-screen TV and a quiet street view.

Straven Guesthouse provides a full cooked Scottish Breakfast with fried/poached/scrambled egg, bacon, sausage, black pudding, tattie scone, tomato and mushroom. Other breakfast options include boiled eggs, croissants and pastries with cheese, Belgian waffles with fresh fruit and honey, Menemen (Turkish style scrambled eggs) with feta cheese served with toast, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on a toasted bagel, Shakshuka, and Rice Vermicelli Upma. The Guesthouse uses Scottish butter, milk, and free-range eggs. The sausages and black pudding come from Findlay's Butchers in Portobello. Scottish strawberries or plums from own plum tree are served.

Guests can take a walk along the burn through the Woodland in the Newhailes National Trust Estate. Guests can explore the rock pools at the East end of the beach or stop for a picnic on the sand watching the paddleboarders, kite surfers and rowers. Guests can walk along the river to historic town of Melrose and its ruined Abbey. Guests can see the Castle which has a Gold award with Green Tourism for its Eco standards.

Straven Guesthouse is located in Edinburgh, 50 yards from a sandy beach in Joppa, Portobello. It is 6 km from Edinburgh Waverley and 30 km from Edinburgh Airport. Straven is accessible by public transport. The bus service is affordable, safe and reliable. The bus announces our stop (Brunstane Rd North). The Lothian 19 and Lothian 26 buses go to Princes Street.

Straven Guesthouse offers a friendly atmosphere. The ground floor bedroom en suites can have seats for the showers on request. Dates are non-transferable once made, and travel insurance is recommended. The lead guest must be a minimum of 18 years old.
