Blue Heron Inn is situated in the historic district of Fernandina Beach, just a short stroll from Centre Street's restaurants, cafes and boutiques. Over 30 dining options - including T-Rays Burger, Pepper's Mexican Grill and Ciao Italian Eatery - are within 0.5 km. Amelia Island Lighthouse is 2 km away, Fort Clinch State Park is 6 km, and Jacksonville International Airport is 36 km (approximately 40 minutes by car). The inn's central location means a rental car can stay parked for the duration of the stay, and walking is the most practical way to explore the town and waterfront. The beach itself is a short drive.

The inn offers six distinct rooms, each with nautical or heritage-themed decor. The Heron room (ground floor) has a flat-screen TV, spa bath and a high-sided tub that requires agility to enter. The Sandpiper Suite is the largest, with a two-person spa bath, seating area with two sofas, and can sleep up to three guests. The Compass Rose and Hummingbird rooms also feature spa baths, with Hummingbird offering a large walk-in closet. The Princess Amelia room includes a brass claw-foot tub with shower. All rooms have private bathrooms, flat-screen TVs, air conditioning, heating, coffee makers (Keurig in some), ironing facilities, free toiletries, and either carpeted or parquet floors. Linens are high-quality, and the beds - including four-posters - are noted for comfort. Rooms facing the street are quiet, and those on the third floor are spacious and quiet, with good temperature control via individual thermostats.

Breakfast is a highlight: a freshly prepared three-course meal served on the wrap-around porch, veranda or in the common area - often starting with a refreshing starter followed by dishes such as shrimp and grits, specialty pancakes or soufflés. Dietary needs (e.g. gluten-free, vegetarian) can be accommodated upon request. Complimentary self-serve coffee and tea are available throughout the day, along with fresh-baked cookies in the foyer. A daily wine-and-cheese happy hour from 5:00-6:00 pm is included. Light snacks such as fruit, brownies and pastries are also sometimes available. Over 30 restaurants within walking distance provide ample evening dining options.

The pool area is inviting for relaxation: solar-heated and open year-round, it features sun loungers, umbrellas, and a fence for safety. The backyard garden and sun terrace provide additional spots for reading or unwinding. The inn also has a library stocked with books, and the wrap-around porch with rocking chairs and a swing is a popular place for morning coffee or evening wine. Bicycle and car rental services are available (bikes delivered via a local company, Riptide, for a fee), and the location is ideal for walking to historic sites, shops and dining.
