This inn puts you in the heart of New Orleans' artsy Bywater neighborhood, known for its colorful houses, sidewalk gardens, and eclectic local scene. The French Quarter is about 3 km (3 km) away, easily reached by a quick Uber ride, bus, or car. Major attractions like the Mercedes-Benz Superdome (7 km) and Union Station (6 km) are a short drive, while Audubon Nature Institute is 14 km out. The area itself is walkable and safe, with numerous bars, restaurants, and a brewery within a few blocks. Parking is free on the street, but finding a spot directly in front may require patience during busy times. Street parking is available right outside. A rooster in the neighborhood may be heard in the morning.

Each suite is uniquely decorated and features a private bathroom with a clawfoot bathtub and shower, free toiletries, and a hairdryer. Rooms are large, often with a separate living area and a wardrobe, and all include a flat-screen TV, coffee machine, and ironing facilities. Some rooms have a private pool, patio, and outdoor seating area. Beds are queen-sized in single-bed suites or two beds in larger ones. Rooms are quiet and comfortable, with strong air conditioning and a carpeted floor. No rooms have a balcony. If traveling with a pet, request a suite that accommodates dogs. A rooster may be heard in the morning.

The Lookout Inn does not have its own restaurant, so all meals require a short walk or quick drive. The neighborhood, however, is rich with options: Jack Dempsey's Restaurant and The Bywater Hideout Cafe are just 0.5 km away, while Vaughan's Lounge, B J's Lounge, and Bacchanal Fine Wine & Spirits are similarly close. Parleaux Beer Lab and Church's Chicken are also within 0.5 km. For breakfast, Bywater Bakery and Frady's (known for breakfast Po'boys) are popular local choices. The inn does not serve breakfast, so planning to eat out for the first meal of the day is necessary.

The inn's backyard features a seasonal outdoor swimming pool with a shallow end, swimming pool toys, and pool towels provided. The hot tub is a highlight, available from September through mid-May (closed mid-May to mid-September), and open daily from 8:00 to 22:00. The pool is not heated, but the hot tub offers warmth in colder months. Outdoor dining areas and barbecue facilities are available for those who want to cook outside. The property also has a cabana and outdoor furniture for lounging. No spa or fitness center is on-site.
