FIREHOUSE HOSTEL (ADULTS ONLY), Austin

The Firehouse Hostel is set in the heart of downtown Austin, directly on the 6th Street entertainment strip, putting dozens of bars, live music venues, and restaurants within a one-minute walk. The Texas Capitol is a 10-minute walk. Zilker Park and Barton Springs Pool are a 10-minute drive. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is 12 km away; the CapMetro bus provides good central access. There is no parking on site. Paid street parking is available downtown (rates vary), and the St. David's parking garage at 710 Trinity Street offers a $20/24-hour rate. Street parking is free after 6 PM.

Dormitory rooms are simply furnished with bunk beds. The female dorm holds 8 beds, the male dorm 6 beds, and mixed dorms range from 4 to 8 beds. A few private rooms are available: the Brazos Suite (large private bathroom, small refrigerator) and the Penthouse suite (queen bed plus two bunks, separate toilet and shower, and views of the Driskill Hotel). Entire-room bookings are also possible. All rooms have air conditioning and heating, but no windows in some lower-floor rooms. Second-floor dorms are directly above the bar and experience loud bass vibration and music until 2 AM. Third-floor rooms are quieter. Bedside amenities include a reading light, shelf, fan, and electrical outlet. Lower bunks cannot be reserved in advance. Lockers in the rooms require your own lock. The elevator does not always work.

The hostel provides free coffee and tea 24 hours a day, but no breakfast meals. A well-equipped shared kitchen with stove, fridge, microwave, and cookware allows guests to prepare their own food. The Firehouse Lounge, accessible through a hidden bookshelf in the lobby, serves handcrafted cocktails and features live music, and hostel guests receive happy-hour pricing there. Nearby dining options within short walking distance include Voodoo Doughnuts (0.5 km), Iron Cactus Mexican Restaurant (0.5 km), Happy Chicks (0.5 km), 1886 Cafe & Bakery (0.5 km), Friends Bar (0.5 km), and several others. A vending machine offers drinks in the hostel.

The hostel provides a laundry room with a washer and dryer (credit card operated, $1.89 per load, detergent included). For leisure, there are board games, a shared lounge/TV area, and a rooftop area. The hostel also organizes a pub crawl, poker night, and trips to Barton Springs (free entry with a hostel towel). The Firehouse Lounge, the hostel's own speakeasy bar hidden behind a bookshelf, is a popular attraction: it is open to the public until 2 AM and offers handcrafted cocktails and live music.
