GOVERNORS INN HOTEL, Sacramento

The hotel sits in the heart of Sacramento, adjacent to Highway 5 and near the Interstate 80 intersection, making it easy to drive to most attractions. Golden 1 Center is less than 2 km away, and Old Sacramento Historic State Park, the State Capitol Museum, and Sacramento Amtrak station are within a 5-minute drive. Bus route 11 stops directly outside the hotel, offering a cheap $2.50 fare to downtown in about 10 minutes. However, the surrounding neighborhood has a dense homeless population and several shelters, which makes walking outside at night feel unsafe. Most visitors recommend using a car. Nearby landmarks include McDonald's, a gas station, Sutter Health Park (home of the River Cats baseball team), and Sacramento Pipeworks climbing gym.

Room types include King Rooms, Two Queen Bed rooms, King Suites (with separate sleeping and living areas and two TVs), and Studio King rooms with a sofa bed and refrigerator. Mobility-accessible rooms have 32-inch doorways, roll-in showers, grab bars, and ADA-compliant fixtures. All rooms feature free Wi-Fi, cable TV, carpeted floors, and ironing equipment. Room comfort is mixed-many find the mattresses too firm, and some report that the sheets are small and come off the bed. Noise is a frequent concern: walls are thin, and rooms facing McDonald's or the freeway pick up traffic noise and blaring music at night. Air conditioning units can be loud. The overall decor is dated, with a '70s-era feel, and some guests note that bathrooms show signs of wear (cracked tiles, malfunctioning shower doors). Luggage storage is available for early arrivals or late departures.

Breakfast includes pre-packaged pastries (croissants, bagels), cereal, oatmeal, fruit, yogurt, juice, and coffee/tea, plus a self-serve waffle maker. The breakfast room is staffed by friendly associates who keep it well-stocked and clean. There is no restaurant or bar on site. Dinner and lunch options require leaving the property; the immediate area lacks sit-down dining within safe walking distance, but a McDonald's is next door and a gas station market is across the street. For more substantial meals, driving to downtown Sacramento or Del Paso Road hotels with restaurants is recommended. Vending machines with drinks and snacks are available in the hotel.
