Hotel Details

Location

The residence is in the heart of downtown Halifax, a 2-minute walk from Grand Parade and 600 metres from the waterfront boardwalk.
Granville Hall sits on a quiet secondary street parallel to Barrington Street, placing guests within a 3-minute walk of the World Trade and Convention Centre, 600 metres from Halifax Citadel, and 300 metres from the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. Bus lines are a 2-minute walk away, and the harbour ferry terminal is two blocks away, providing easy access to Dartmouth and the wider city. The block is active mainly during business hours (8:00-17:00), so evenings and weekends are generally calm. The area is safe and walkable, with numerous restaurants, bars, museums, and shops within a few blocks. For airport connections, the city bus stop for route 320 (CAD 4.25 one-way) is a short walk away; taxis cost approximately CAD 80 one way.

Accommodation

Private rooms with shared bathrooms and fully equipped communal kitchens; rooms are basic but clean and furnished with a desk, wardrobe, and mini-fridge in select rooms.
The residence offers single, twin, double, and premium rooms, all with shared bathrooms located in the hallway. Premium rooms are larger and feature a double bed, desk, full-size wardrobe, mini-fridge, and often a characterful red-brick wall. Twin and double rooms have two twin beds and can be booked for single occupancy of the whole room. Standard single rooms are compact and have a twin bed, desk, and wardrobe - some are windowless. All rooms include an electric kettle, parquet flooring, heating, and a floor-standing fan; air conditioning is only available in hallways and the common lounge, so rooms can become hot in summer, especially upper floors. Rooms on the first floor are roomier and easier to access without stairs. Noise from fellow residents and street construction has been noted; rooms are not soundproof, and morning vacuuming in corridors can wake light sleepers. Clean sheets and towels are provided, and fresh linens can be collected from self-service shelves.

Dining

No on-site restaurant; guests cook in fully equipped shared kitchens or purchase meals from nearby Rudy's Café.
Each floor has a shared kitchen with a fridge, freezer, microwave, toaster, kettle, Keurig machine, dishes, cookware, and cutlery. Full stove/oven access is available on the second and third floors. An optional meal plan can be purchased for use at Rudy's Café, which is adjacent to the residence and offers breakfast, lunch, and early supper. Meals can be taken to-go. The meal plan is not pro-rated if started mid-month, and unused credits do not carry over. For those who prefer to eat out, a wide variety of restaurants, from seafood to pizza, are within a 3-minute walk. A grocery store is also a 3-minute walk away for self-catering supplies.

Facilities and Services

Free Wi-Fi, shared kitchen and lounge, self-service laundry, luggage storage during office hours, and 24-hour CCTV security.
Wi-Fi is free throughout the building. Laundry is available in the basement using a card-loaded machine; laundry cards can be purchased from the administration office during business hours (10:00-16:30, Monday-Friday). Luggage storage is free but limited to office hours - bags cannot be left after the office closes. Express check-in and check-out are digital and contactless; a computer in the lobby can assist if the digital code fails. There is no on-site parking, but nearby street parking is free on weekends and between 18:00-08:00 on weekdays; a parking garage (Metro Park) is a 3-minute walk. Bicycle parking is free at the nearby Metro Park. Safety features include CCTV in common areas and outside, fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, and a sprinkler system. The building is not wheelchair accessible and does not accommodate pets. The administration office can be called or visited during working hours; staff are available for conflict resolution and emergencies.

Top Strategic Tips

  • 01

Request a first-floor room to avoid stairs and increase spaciousness, as the building has no elevator.

  • 02

Plan to use the self check-in system; arrive prepared to handle digital codes and consider having a backup communication method.

  • 03

Use the luggage storage in the lounge during office hours if needed, but collect your bags before the office closes.

  • 04

For airport transfers, take the city bus (route 320) from a stop a few blocks away for a CAD 4.25 one-way fare instead of a taxi.
