The hotel sits directly off the I-5 freeway, 3 km from San Diego International Airport (8-minute drive). The Country Center trolley stop is adjacent, providing easy access to downtown and the Gaslamp Quarter. Little Italy, Seaport Village, the Maritime Museum, and Waterfront Park are all within a 10-minute walk. The cruise ship terminal is 0.3 km away, Balboa Park and the Convention Center are 2 km, and the nearest beaches are a 7-10 minute drive. Note that the hotel is located next to active train tracks, and train noise-including horns and crossing bells-is constant throughout the day and night, particularly from rooms facing the tracks. The area has some homeless presence, but the immediate vicinity is well-lit and safe.

All rooms are non-smoking and include a private bathroom with shower, flat-screen TV, tea and coffee maker, ironing facilities, and free toiletries. Rooms are generally spacious with comfortable beds, but the property is older and some areas are undergoing renovation. Train and trolley noise penetrates even sealed windows-light sleepers should bring earplugs or request a room away from the tracks. Walls are thin; noise from neighboring rooms and hallways is common. Some rooms have connecting doors which can increase sound transfer. The air conditioning unit can be loud and may not maintain a consistent temperature. A microwave is available in the lobby, not in guest rooms. While many rooms have been updated, some still have older furniture and carpets. Occasional reports of ants in rooms have occurred, though management typically addresses this promptly.

Breakfast is included for all guests and is served buffet-style. Offerings include make-your-own waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage or bacon, yogurt, cereal, bread, and pastries. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are available during breakfast hours, and coffee is also available in the lobby throughout the day. The breakfast area can become crowded during peak times, and table cleaning may be slower at busy periods. Some items occasionally run out, and the selection is more limited than at other Hampton Inns. There is no restaurant or bar on-site, but Little Italy and the downtown area offer numerous dining options within a short walk.

The outdoor pool is heated and open year-round, offering views of San Diego Bay and the city skyline. The pool area includes sun terrace and outdoor furniture. Towels are sometimes not provided at the pool; they can be requested from the front desk. The fitness center is free and equipped with cardio machines and free weights. There are no additional spa or wellness facilities on site. The adjacent Waterfront Park has a playground and green space for families.
