HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS DUBAI, JUMEIRAH BY IHG, Dubai

This hotel sits on Jumeirah Street in the Jumeirah-1 area, opposite the Dry Docks and next to Al Hudaiba building - a location that is practical for access to Port Rashid Docks and Dubai Maritime City. The area is a 10-minute drive from Burj Khalifa and Dubai city centre, and within a 20-minute drive from Dubai Airport. While the nearest metro station is a 40-minute walk or a short taxi ride away, a bus stop is right near the hotel, and taxis are readily available though they need to be booked through the hotel, which can involve a wait. The immediate streets have several dining options within 0.5 km, including Lal Qila and Truck Adda restaurants. The surrounding location is more industrial and less tourist-centric, but the free shuttle helps bridge the gap to major attractions.

Rooms are compact, averaging 20.98 m2, and include standard amenities: a work desk, electric kettle, tea/coffee facilities, ironing facilities, a safe, and a TV with cable and satellite channels. The windows do not open, and the air conditioning is centrally regulated, which can make the room feel stuffy. The bathrooms are small with invigorating power showers, but some shower doors do not close fully and temperature control can be erratic. The decor is dated, with carpets and furniture showing wear and occasional stains. Bed options include king, double, or twin beds (each twin is 120 x 200 cm), and some rooms offer a sofa bed, though it is noted as thin and uncomfortable on the springs. For those needing more space, interconnecting rooms (a king with sofa bed connected to a twin) are available but subject to availability. Road and port-facing rooms can be noisy, so internal or quieter-facing rooms are preferable for light sleepers.

Breakfast is a continental and buffet-style spread with hot dishes, pastries, fruit, and a choice of beverages, available at an additional charge of 35 AED per person - or included in some rates. The breakfast selection is practical but can be repetitive, leaning toward Indian cuisine on some days, and the quality is described as basic but manageable. The Lobby bar serves light snacks, sandwiches, wines, draught beers, and fresh smoothies and fruit drinks, along with music entertainment. For lunch and dinner, The Great Room offers a buffet with options like pasta, rice, and fish, though the variety and freshness have been noted as limited. A special diet menu is available on request. For a wider or different meal option, several restaurants are within a short walk, including Lal Qila, Pippin Hot, and Manna Land Korean.

The wellness facilities are limited to a complimentary fitness centre. There is no swimming pool on the property, but the hotel runs a shuttle to La Mer Beach - about a 20-minute walk or a short ride - and provides free beach towels. A paid spa service is offered but has been reported to involve an uncomfortable upselling experience, so use with caution. For leisure, darts and happy hour are available on site, and the front desk can help arrange excursions such as desert safaris.
