HOTEL ALLA FAVA, Venice

The hotel sits on Campo della Fava, a small canal-side square that stays quiet despite its central position. Rialto Bridge is 3 minutes on foot, St Mark's Square is about 5 minutes, and the surrounding area is packed with restaurants, cafés, and shops - including Suso Gelatoteca, Da Mamo, and Rosticceria Gislon, all within 0.5 km. The nearest vaporetto (water bus) stop is close, making it easy to reach the train station (Santa Lucia) and other islands. The building is on the first floor with easy access via stairs; no lift is available. For those arriving with luggage, the 28-minute walk from the station is manageable, or you can take a water bus.

Rooms are in a 13th-century building with parquet flooring and original character, but many are compact - single rooms are described as very small ('cell-like'), and some double beds are two twin beds pushed together, creating a noticeable gap. Lower-priced rooms may have limited natural light due to proximity to another building. Private bathrooms are available in some rooms; shared bathrooms are an option and are kept clean, serving at most two rooms with locking doors. Noise can be an issue: walls are thin, and brass key locks are loud. No air conditioning - only a fan is provided, and is often noisy. Rooms do not have kettles, irons, or a proper wardrobe for hanging clothes. Towels, hairdryer, and basic toiletries are supplied. Some rooms offer canal or square views; triple rooms do not have a balcony.

The hotel does not offer breakfast or a restaurant. For drinks and quick snacks, two vending machines in the lobby - one for hot drinks, one for cold drinks and snacks - are available around the clock at reasonable prices (e.g., coffee and water for €0.70). The central location puts dozens of cafés, bakeries, and restaurants within a short walk, including Ristorante Alle Corone, Da Mamo, and Suso Gelatoteca, all within 0.5 km. A shared fridge in the kitchen is available. Those wanting a proper morning meal should plan to eat out, as there is no breakfast provision.
