HOTEL UND RASTHOF AVUS, Berlin

The motel is located in Berlin's Charlottenburg district, right on the historic AVUS racetrack. It is a 10-minute walk to Westkreuz S-Bahn (city rail) via a tunnel, and a 20-minute walk to Kaiserdamm U-Bahn station on the U2 line, offering direct connections to the Olympic Stadium, Potsdamer Platz, and Alexanderplatz. The ICC and Messe Berlin exhibition grounds are directly opposite, accessible on foot in about 10 minutes. A 15-minute walk leads to Bazaar Berlin. The motorway junction provides quick car access, but the area is not very walkable for amenities; public transport is the best option for city travel. Double-glazed windows help reduce motorway noise, but road-facing rooms can still hear traffic.

Rooms are basic and reflect a 1970s style, with features such as carpeted floors, soundproof walls, and twin beds or double configurations. Some rooms have connecting doors. While rooms are generally clean, cleanliness can be inconsistent; some may have mold in bathroom grout, dirty carpets, or old mattresses. There is no air conditioning, so rooms can get hot in summer; opening windows may let in motorway noise. Blackout curtains are not always provided. WiFi is only available in the restaurant and lobby area, not in the rooms. Request a room away from the motorway for quieter sleep. The property also offers family rooms and a kid-friendly buffet.

The breakfast buffet is a basic continental spread with bread, pastries, scrambled eggs, and drinks. It offers good value for the price. The in-house restaurant, Restaurant #1, offers traditional German dishes, including vegetarian options, and is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and high tea. A kid-friendly buffet is available. The bar is open 24 hours, serving Berlin snacks and refreshing drinks. A separate smoking lounge is provided. Dinner at the restaurant has received praise for taste and price, but service can be slow during busy periods.
