LITERAL HOSTEL, Malaga

The hostel is a 2-minute walk from Malaga María Zambrano Train Station, providing direct train service to the airport in about 15 minutes. The bus station is also within a 10-minute walk. The historic city centre, including Calle Larios and the cathedral, is 5-10 minutes on foot. La Malagueta Beach is reachable in a 20-30 minute walk. The immediate area offers dozens of restaurants, tapas bars, and cafes all within a 300-metre radius. Despite being central, the street itself is relatively quiet, and the area feels safe at night. Suits travellers who want walkable access to the main sights, transport hubs, and dining without needing a car. Note that no on-site parking is available.

The hostel offers mixed and female-only dormitories. Room sizes vary from 8 to 16 beds. Each pod-style bed is separated by a privacy screen and has its own reading light, electrical socket, and a small shelf. Mattresses and pillows are comfortable, with a soft blanket provided. A personal locker (depth 59 cm x width 45 cm x height 90 cm) is assigned per bed and is located in the gender-separated bathroom and changing area, not in the bedroom, keeping the sleeping area quieter. Top bunks are set high and the shared ladder is not easy to climb or descend for everyone. The dormitory rooms have no windows, no natural light, and rely on a central air conditioning system. The temperature can vary, and some areas can feel warm or stuffy. Rooms have sensor-controlled lighting, which some may find distracting at night. Air conditioning is centrally controlled and cannot be adjusted from the room.

The café at the entrance offers coffee, pastries, and a small breakfast selection (mirror "breakfast is available"). The breakfast is healthy and tasty, but it is an extra paid service. A vending machine (snacks & drinks) is also on site. The kitchenette is minimal - it has a microwave, a dishwasher, and very few utensils (forks, spoons, plates) relative to the number of guests. There is no stovetop, oven, or refrigerator for guest use, so meal preparation is not practical. The kitchen seating is limited to four chairs. For a full meal, the abundant restaurants, tapas bars, and cafes within a 2-minute walk are recommended.

Paid pub crawls are available for guests looking to socialise and explore Malaga's nightlife. The tour desk helps arrange city tours and activities. The property has a small lounge area with a sofa and a few chairs, but this space can get noisy and crowded. A shared outdoor seating area (garden furniture) is open for use. There is no pool, spa, or gym. The main leisure offering is the city itself, with the beach a 20-30 minute walk away and Malaga's historic centre at your doorstep.

Wi-Fi is free in all areas, though connection can be slow at peak times. The 24-hour front desk staff speak English, Spanish, Italian, and Russian. Daily housekeeping is provided, cleaning the bathrooms and common areas multiple times per day. The property uses a digital access system: a pre-installed smartphone app controls entry to the main door, dormitory, and personal locker. A paper code is also provided. Lockers are in the gender-separated bathroom area and are accessed via a personal code or app. The locker room can become congested. Luggage storage for a fee is available at a nearby locker shop if needed. There is no on-site laundry, but a self-service launderette is very close by. The hostel is wheelchair accessible, with rooms and bathrooms designed for wheelchair users. Hairdryers are available in the bathroom area. A trouser press is also available.
