The Oceanic Motel occupies a uniquely scenic position at the inlet, offering panoramic views of the ocean, Assateague Island, and the bay. The beach and boardwalk are about a five-minute walk away, and the boardwalk tram stop is nearby for easy access along the coast. Trimper's amusement rides are a four-minute stroll, and Jolly Roger Amusement Park is 5 km away. The 24-hour bus route runs right across the street, so leaving the car parked on-site is practical. Guests on foot can reach a wide variety of shops and dining options within a few blocks, making the location exceptionally convenient for exploring without driving.

Rooms are generally small and basic, with carpeted floors, a flat-screen TV with cable, and a private bathroom with either a shower or a bath. All units include a small refrigerator; microwaves are not available in patio or bayside rooms, only in certain other room types. The property offers a mix of layouts, including double rooms with one or two beds, family rooms with two double beds, and efficiency units with a kitchenette. Some rooms have a patio, but there are no balconies. The windows and doors in older sections are known to be drafty, and noise from neighboring rooms should be expected. The carpet and furnishings in some rooms are feeling their age, though the motel does complete a rotating program of updates each year. Bedding and linens are provided fresh, and the staff is known for being responsive to requests.

There is no restaurant or bar at the Oceanic Motel itself. Coffee (regular and decaf) is available from the office, but there are no in-room coffee makers. For meals, guests are well-positioned to walk to several nearby eateries, including Thrasher's French Fries, Dumsers Dairyland, and the Cork Bar Grill, all within half a kilometre. Harrison's Harbor Watch, a long-standing seafood restaurant with raw bar and views, is just steps away. Having a car opens up many more options along Coastal Highway and the boardwalk.

The motel features an outdoor swimming pool with a shallow end and a fence around it; it is open seasonally (typically until October 1st) and is not heated. A private bayside beach area is available behind the property, best used for relaxing and watching the boat traffic rather than swimming. The standout leisure amenity is a lengthy free fishing pier - guests receive one pass per person per day from the office. Picnic areas with barbecue grills, hammocks, and sun terrace seating are scattered along the water, creating a pleasant outdoor lounge space. Water sport facilities (at an additional charge) and direct beach access are within a short walk.

Free private parking is offered on-site but requires a reservation - one parking permit per room is provided, and the spaces are directly in front of the units, making unloading easy. The front desk operates 24/7; all adults checking in must be at least 18 with a valid ID. Daily housekeeping is provided (trash removal and towel exchange). Vending machines for drinks and snacks are on-site. The property is non-smoking indoors, but smoking is permitted outside on the balcony or patio. Access to rooms is via a physical key, not a key card. The motel does not have wheelchair-accessible rooms, but ramps can be set up and standard doorways are wide enough for a wheelchair to enter.
