STOW AWAY WATERLOO, London

Stow Away Waterloo occupies a converted container block metres from Waterloo station, providing direct access to the Jubilee, Bakerloo and Northern tube lines plus the Gatwick Express. The South Bank, Westminster Abbey, and the theatre district are all within a 10- to 15-minute walk. The immediate street is lined with cafés, bars (including a wine bar and a Brewdog), plus a Co-op and Tesco Express for groceries. Sainsbury's Local is also nearby. London City Airport is 11 km away. The main drawback is that the building sits directly above active railway tracks: train movement is audible 24/7, and the container construction amplifies low-frequency rumble. Road-facing rooms also pick up noise from a wine bar that stays open late.

Each apartment is a single container unit comprising a studio living/sleeping area plus an ensuite bathroom. The bed is a 135/190 cm double - described as very comfortable by most - and blackout blinds are fitted, though some units have had broken or stuck blinds that leave the room exposed to street lights. Rooms are compact (the width of a king bed, extending lengthways) and have no window that opens; ventilation relies entirely on the air conditioning system, which can be noisy and, in several cases, has failed, leaving rooms without cooling or heating. A space heater or a portable air-conditioning unit has sometimes been provided as a workaround. There is no balcony, no bathtub (only showers), and the TV is fixed in position (not adjustable). The container construction means internal humidity can build up, and mould has been reported in some units, especially around the window area. Noise is the most consistent issue - train noise penetrates the container walls, and street-level sounds from bars, late-night pedestrians and freight trains are clearly audible. Some units also suffered from broken electric blinds, blocked sinks, and poorly sealed shower doors that flood the bathroom floor.

Stow Away Waterloo does not offer breakfast or operate an on-site restaurant. The ground floor of the building contains a separate wine bar (not run by the property) that serves drinks and food until late. Each apartment is equipped with a kitchenette including a stove top, microwave, dishwasher, kettle, toaster, full-sized fridge and utensils - allowing guests to prepare their own meals. Co-op and Tesco Express are across the street. The immediate area has an exceptionally high concentration of eateries: within 0.5 km you'll find Four Corners Cafe, Sista Barista, The Travel Cafe, Sino Thai, Duke Thai, Unwined Waterloo and Chunnel Bar. Locale is 0.5 km away. Black & Blue Steakhouse is near the main Waterloo station entrance.

Wi-Fi is free throughout the building. A lift serves all four floors. Laundry is available (self-service with a washing machine), though the machine has been reported broken at times. There is no on-site reception or luggage storage - guests who arrive before check-in must use commercial luggage storage at Waterloo Station. Parking is not available; the nearest car parks are Britannia and JustPark. Check-in is entirely self-service via an emailed door code. Security measures include CCTV in common areas, smoke alarms and fire extinguishers. The property does not allow pets and is non-smoking throughout. Housekeeping is not daily - rooms are cleaned only on the 4th day of each stay, and extra towels or toiletries must be requested by messaging. The lack of on-site staff means maintenance issues (broken heating, clogged sinks, faulty showers, non-working blinds) may not be resolved during a stay, and problems such as false fire alarms or unauthorised door code changes are managed remotely, often with delays.
