THE JUNIPER INN, Saint Catharines

The inn is located in the walkable Port Dalhousie neighbourhood, right on Lake Ontario. The beach, park, pier, and marina are all within a block. Numerous restaurants, coffee shops (Balzac's, 416 Coffee), pubs (Kilt and Clover, Lock Street Brewing Company), and an ice cream shop are within a 2-minute walk. Niagara Falls is about 23 km away, and Niagara-on-the-Lake is accessible for wine tours and theatre. The QEW is close by, making the location convenient as a base for exploring the Niagara region. For local trips, the lakefront walking trail and Welland Canal viewing spots are nearby. The parking lot can be full during beach season - keeping the car parked during daytime hours after arrival avoids losing the spot.

Accommodation consists of six uniquely decorated rooms (e.g., Rock and Roll, Flamingo, Zebra, Cactus, Pirate-themed Murphy bed room) named after themes that carry through to decor, wallpaper, and details. Rooms are individually sized - some are described as spacious, others as compact but well-appointed. All rooms have private bathrooms with walk-in showers, hairdryers, and premium toiletries. In-room amenities include air conditioning, heating, flat-screen TV with streaming services, Nespresso or coffee machine, electric kettle, mini fridge, microwave, free bottled water, and a welcome tray with snacks and wine/champagne. Beds are noted as very comfortable with high-quality pillows. Some rooms offer lake views or quiet street views. The building has high ceilings, parquet floors, and real plants in some rooms. No breakfast is served. For those sensitive to noise, the inn is noted as quiet even though it is on a restaurant row - the restaurant below closes before bedtime.

The inn does not operate a restaurant, café, or bar of its own, but its location is a culinary hub. Directly across the street are Balzac's Coffee Roasters, The Twisted Pig, Budapest Bakeshop, and KaiserHaus. Kilt and Clover pub, Lock Street Brewing Company, and PIER 61 Bar & Grill are within 0.5 km. Scorecard Harry's is 0.5 km away, and McDonald's is 0.5 km. A restaurant is also located on the ground floor of the building, accessible via a back door without going outside. For those who prefer to dine in, the room includes a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee/tea-making facilities with a welcome supply of snacks.

Guests can watch ships pass through the Welland Canal, and in summer a large Tuesday festival takes place in the area. For rainy days or evenings, the many restaurants, brewpubs, and coffee shops provide entertainment within walking distance.

During beach season the lot fills, but with the overnight pass many cars move out by morning. The inn offers a contactless self-check-in with door codes sent by text; the owner is responsive via text/WhatsApp for any needs. Dogs are allowed (no cats) for a one-time $35 fee per stay, with a dog bed, bowls, and treats available. Luggage storage can be arranged. Express check-in/out, private check-in/out, and room service are available. The inn does not have a front desk or ground-floor access - stairs are required to reach rooms and therefore it is not wheelchair accessible.
