THE SOUTHWINDS, Cape May

The Southwinds is located in the Cove area, just 110 metres from the beach and 800 metres from the Washington Street Mall. The Cape May Lighthouse is 3 km away, and the Cape May-Lewes Ferry terminal is about 5 km from the property. The Convention Hall is five blocks away. Free private parking on-site means a car is convenient, though the walkable access to shops, restaurants, and the beach allows many stays without driving. The neighbourhood is notably quiet, and bike lanes are available for exploring further.

The Southwinds offers one-bedroom suites, two-bedroom suites, and deluxe studios. All units feature air conditioning, a flat-screen cable TV, and a private bathroom with a walk-in shower and bathtub. Most rooms include a kitchenette with a refrigerator, microwave, stove top, coffee maker, toaster, and cookware. The one-bedroom suites on the first floor have a kitchenette, while two-bedroom suites include a full kitchen. Each room has a private balcony or terrace - none have direct ocean views, as the property is a half-block from the beach. King studios are on the second floor and require climbing one flight of stairs. The decor is updated and clean, with soundproof walls and parquet flooring. Cots can be arranged through an external rental company.

There is no restaurant or breakfast service at The Southwinds. Each room is equipped with a kitchenette (or full kitchen in two-bedroom suites) including a refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffee maker, and dishes. The outdoor area features picnic tables, BBQ grills, and a seating area for al fresco dining. Several restaurants, cafes, and coffee shops are within a five-minute walk, including The Rusty Nail, La Verandah, Dock Mike's Pancake House, and Brother's Pizza II. An ice machine is available on-site.

The Southwinds does not have its own swimming pool or spa. Guests have access to the pool at the sister property Heritage Inn. The beach is a half-block walk, and beach chairs and umbrellas are available for rent from Steger's Beach Service. On-site leisure includes a garden, terrace, picnic area, and BBQ facilities. Off-site activities available at additional charge include golf, biking tours, walking tours, horse riding, windsurfing, canoeing, and tennis. The beach requires a pass sold by the City of Cape May.

Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. Daily housekeeping is included at no charge. Parking is free and private on-site, with no reservation needed, and cars can remain after check-out. Accessible parking spaces are available, though no wheelchair-accessible rooms exist. The front desk is staffed for express check-in/out and private check-in/out. Guests can use a luggage storage or changing area on departure day. Security features include key access, smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, and 24-hour security. Linens and towels are provided, but guests must bring their own beach towels. Outdoor showers are available for rinsing after the beach.
