FORT HARRISON STATE PARK INN, Oaklandon

The inn sits at the entrance to the state park, providing immediate access to over 16 km of hiking and biking trails, fishing spots, and a scenic golf course. Guests receive a free park pass with their room key. The location is quiet and removed from city noise, yet the interstate is a short drive away. Downtown Indianapolis, including Lucas Oil Stadium and the Indiana Convention Center, is about 17 km away, and Indianapolis Airport is 32 km away. Several restaurants are within a 3-minute drive, including Thai, Mexican, and an ice cream shop. The area is walkable for accessing the park entrance directly, but a car is recommended for reaching city attractions and dining options.

The inn offers a variety of room types, from standard double rooms to suites with separate sitting areas and enclosed porches. Many rooms have been renovated and include walk-in showers, jacuzzi tubs, and multi-jet shower heads. Beds are consistently described as very comfortable, and pillows and towels are of good quality. All rooms include air conditioning, heating, a flat-screen TV with cable, a hairdryer, and ironing facilities. Some rooms feature a sofa bed, and most have a desk or seating area. While the historic building has character, some rooms have been noted as having older furniture, stained carpet or sofas, or minor maintenance issues like leaking faucets. The building is accessible via elevator, and some accessible rooms are available. There are no private balconies, but the inn has a front porch with rocking chairs. Rooms away from the elevator are quieter.

The free breakfast for inn guests includes a variety of hot and cold options such as eggs, sausage or biscuits and gravy, waffles, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, pastries, coffee, and juice. Options for those with gluten-free diets are available upon request. The Garrison restaurant is open for lunch daily from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM and for brunch on weekends from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The restaurant serves alcohol and can accommodate groups. Dinner is not available on-site, so guests planning evening meals should eat out at nearby restaurants or arrange their own meal. There is a small gift shop on the premises. Some breakfast items have been noted as occasionally stale, though the overall selection is considered good.

Guests can use the free fitness centre, which includes exercise equipment. The golf course (The Fort Golf Resort & Conference Center) is open for play and has a driving range. The state park offers over 16 km of trails for hiking and biking, including the paved Harrison Trace Trail and the moderate Fall Creek Trail. Fishing is available in Delaware Lake and Fall Creek. Seasonal activities include horse riding (March to October), cross-country skiing, and sledding. The park also has picnic areas and a Museum of 20th Century Warfare. There is no swimming pool or spa on-site.
