FOUND HOTEL SAN DIEGO, San Diego

The hotel sits on a busy street right next to the I-5 freeway on-ramp and close to the airport, so noise from traffic and airplanes is a constant factor. For light sleepers, requesting a room on the backside ('quiet rooms') is recommended. The location is excellent for exploring on foot: India Street's restaurants are two blocks away, the marina and Seaport Village are within a 15-minute walk, and Balboa Park is a short drive or scooter ride. Public transport is accessible via nearby bus stops and the Santa Fe Depot Amtrak station is less than 5 minutes by Uber. The property is 45 minutes from the airport on foot along the waterfront, or less than 5 minutes by car.

Private rooms are described as comfortable with good beds, but some are small and may lack natural light (e.g., rooms facing a wall or interior courtyard). Rooms with kitchenettes are available but may not include cookware or cutlery beyond a microwave and fridge. Air conditioning is provided but some units can be noisy; ceiling fans are an alternative. The building is older, so creaky floors and thin walls mean noise from neighboring rooms and hallways is common. Dormitory-style rooms have bunk beds with privacy curtains, personal outlets, lights, and small lockers (bring your own lock). Cleanliness has been an issue in some instances, so checking the room upon arrival is advisable.

Breakfast is self-service from a small table and is generally considered very basic. Items include prepackaged pastries, bread for toasting, yogurt, granola, milk, orange juice, and coffee/tea. The hotel does not have a restaurant or bar on-site, but there is a shared kitchen where guests can cook and store food (label all items with name and checkout date). Little Italy offers many dining options within a 2-minute walk, including Italian restaurants, a bagel shop, and a brew pub. On Thursday evenings, the hotel often hosts a complimentary happy hour with wine and beer.

A courtyard patio with outdoor furniture provides a space for relaxing or socializing. Board games and puzzles are available for entertainment. The hotel occasionally arranges local activities and social events, such as Thursday happy hours. For wellness, guests can explore nearby Balboa Park for walking trails or rent electric scooters to explore the city.

Reception is not always staffed 24 hours; late check-in may require using a lockbox with a code. Luggage storage is free and can be left for extended periods. The property has key card access for security, along with smoke alarms and safety deposit boxes. A guest laundry room is available. No parking is provided, but free street parking is possible with vigilance for street cleaning signs. Wi-Fi is free and strong enough for typical use, although some rooms may have weaker signals. The hotel supports recycling and uses refillable bathroom products that are vegan and cruelty-free.
