HOSTAL ESCALA SUITES, Madrid

The hostal sits in a peaceful residential neighbourhood next to a school. Accessibility by car is straightforward via the M-30, M-40, and A2 motorways. Free street parking is available but can be busy during school drop-off and pick-up hours. Public transport is convenient: buses 101 and 200 from the airport stop at Canillejas, a 5-minute walk, and the metro (line 5) reaches central Madrid in about 25 minutes. Restaurants, bars, a shopping centre, and El Corte Inglés are within a 10-minute walk. IFEMA is a 20-minute walk or 6-minute taxi ride.

The hostal offers single, double, and twin rooms. All have a private bathroom with shower or bathtub, free toiletries, and hairdryer. In-room amenities include an electric kettle, safe, and wardrobe. Soundproofing is minimal - noise from neighbouring rooms, the elevator, and the street can be heard, which is important for light sleepers. Some rooms are located in the basement with no external windows, limited ventilation, and occasional humidity; these can be avoided by requesting a room above ground level. Decor varies from older furniture to refreshed interiors. No rooms have balconies, but certain rooms open onto a shared courtyard or garden terrace. Beds are generally comfortable, though some twin beds are narrow. Hanging storage is limited in some rooms.

Breakfast includes bread, cold cuts (ham and cheese), muesli, filtered coffee, and juice. Gluten-free or hot food options are not part of the buffet. A coffee house on the premises offers hot drinks and snacks, and a vending machine provides cold drinks. Breakfast can be ordered as room service. For lunch or dinner, a range of restaurants, including Restaurante Visconti (0.5 km), are within a 5-10 minute walk. The nearest supermarket is at the end of the street.

The pool operates from 09:00 to 23:00 during summer months (typically June to August; exact dates vary). Pool cleanliness is maintained but can be inconsistent - those with sensitive skin may wish to check conditions before swimming. The public bath is a simple bath facility. The garden provides outdoor furniture, sun loungers, and shaded spots. There is no gym, spa, or wellness centre on site.
