HOTEL ALTBERLIN AM POTSDAMER PLATZ, Berlin

The hotel sits directly on a main road, providing straightforward car access but also continuous traffic noise - road-facing rooms can be loud day and night. The immediate area includes several dining options within 0.3 to 0.5 km, such as Paul's Deli, Golvet, and Sticks'n'Sushi, as well as bars like Kumpelnest 3000. The hotel is not immediately adjacent to the city centre on foot, but the main road gives easy access to public transport. For those arriving by car, public parking is available nearby for 8 EUR per day without reservation.

Rooms are small and compact, with dated fixtures, old furniture, and a tired overall feel - the property is older and prioritises function over modern style. En-suite bathrooms are very small and include shower curtains that can feel cramped. Road-facing rooms suffer from persistent traffic noise and light from the street and nearby nightlife, making them less suitable for light sleepers. Rear courtyard rooms are significantly quieter and recommended for overnight comfort. The building has no air conditioning, so windows must be opened for ventilation, which brings in street noise at the front and occasional smoke from the courtyard bar. Bedding consists of thin or lumpy pillows and basic covers. Room cleaning is minimal - cups and tea/coffee supplies may not be replenished daily.

The 24-hour reception offers express check-in and check-out and can store luggage for early arrivals or late departures. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, but requires a new username and password each day, obtained from reception. The lift only serves up to the second floor; guests staying on higher floors must climb a short flight of stairs - this is relevant for those with prams or heavy luggage. Pets are allowed with possible additional charges. Laundry and children's play area are available on-site. Room cleaning is basic and may not include daily replenishment of tea/coffee or replacement of used cups. Some staff interactions have been reported as abrupt, particularly during check-in.
