HOTEL KURSAAL & AUSONIA, Florence

The hotel sits on Via Nazionale, a busy street with easy access to the city's main sights. Fortezza da Basso, Florence's exhibition centre, is a 5-minute walk away, and the Duomo and Accademia Gallery are within a 10- to 15-minute stroll. The street itself offers a variety of restaurants, a supermarket, and a small tram stop (a 4-minute walk) that connects to the airport for €1.70. The area is safe and walkable, though pavements can be narrow for luggage. The hotel is outside the ZTL zone, so driving and parking are more straightforward than in the historic core.

All rooms have a private bathroom with a shower, hairdryer, and free toiletries, and some include a balcony with views of Florence's Cathedral rooftops or an inner courtyard. Room sizes vary - some are described as quite spacious, while others can feel compact, especially for groups of four. Beds are generally comfortable, and rooms are kept clean with daily housekeeping (towels changed every two days). Sound insulation is inconsistent: some rooms are quiet, especially those facing the inner courtyard, while street-facing rooms and rooms with older windows can be noisy. Air conditioning is available but may require tuning; some units have a fixed temperature without a remote. Storage space can be limited in smaller rooms, and a mini-fridge is available in some units.

Between 08:00 and 10:00, the hotel provides complimentary espresso, cappuccino, and packaged biscuits or snacks. After 10:00, coffee is available for a small charge, but no other food is served. There is no restaurant or bar for evening meals. The surrounding streets, however, are lined with a wide range of restaurants - from Italian to Indian, Chinese, and American diners - all within a few minutes' walk, including the nearby Mercato Centrale for fresh food and casual dining.

Wi-Fi is free in all rooms and generally reliable. The 24-hour reception allows for express check-in/check-out and late arrivals. Luggage storage is free and available for both before check-in and after check-out, making it easy to explore the city with bags left behind. Valet parking is available at a nearby garage for €50 per day (reservation needed), and the staff can handle the car for stress-free parking. The hotel has a lift, though it is small, and the reception and rooms are on the third floor. Safety features include 24-hour security, CCTV, a safe deposit box, and key access to rooms. Cots are available on request. Fax/photocopying services are available for an additional charge.
