LAUREL POINT RESORT, Gatlinburg

The resort sits up Sky Mountain Road, offering a quiet mountain setting away from Gatlinburg's main traffic. The entrance is steep and has limited lighting, so drive carefully. Free parking is available on-site with a reservation. Downtown Gatlinburg is about 1 km downhill, but public parking there costs $20 per 24 hours with no re-entry. Ober Gatlinburg ski area is 2 km further up the road. There are two convenience stores with pizzerias near the exit for basic supplies. Bears are commonly seen on the grounds; keep car doors locked and do not leave food in vehicles.

Units are spacious, with one or two bedrooms, living areas, and dining space. Buildings differ: Building A and the pool building are newer; Building C is mid-range; Building B is older and undergoing renovation. Beds vary - some are comfortable, others very hard. Many rooms have carpeted floors and older furnishings. Air conditioning and heating are provided. Noise can be an issue near the road (sharp turn with traffic) and from upstairs footsteps. Some units experience high humidity. Cleaning standards are inconsistent; inspect upon arrival and report issues. Only a starter supply of paper towels and toilet paper is provided - plan to buy more for longer stays.

The resort does not have a restaurant, bar, or room service. All units include a full kitchen with cookware, utensils, stove, and refrigerator, ideal for preparing meals. Outdoor BBQ grills and an outdoor fireplace are available for cookouts. A vending machine offers drinks. Nearby, there are convenience stores with pizzerias just outside the resort. Note that the kitchen is stocked with only a basic starter supply of paper towels and dish soap; bring additional supplies as needed.

The pool, hot tub, and sauna are open daily from 10am to 10pm and are well-maintained. The fitness centre is open 24 hours with weights, treadmill, and elliptical machines. The game room features a pool table, PacMan, and ping pong (note the recreation room has been undergoing renovation; confirm availability). Outdoor activities include horseshoes, giant Jenga, cornhole, and a playground. There is no outdoor pool. Skiing is available at Ober Gatlinburg, 2 km up the road. Bear viewing is common on the property - enjoy from a safe distance.

Wi-Fi is free but only available in public areas - many rooms do not have reliable internet. Parking is free and on-site but requires a reservation - book at check-in or earlier. A free guest laundry room with washers and dryers is available, along with daily towel exchange. The property has a business centre with fax/photocopying. Lifts are available in all buildings; however, the B building elevator is out of service. No pets allowed. Non-smoking property.
