MULTI HOSTEL CALVARIO, Madrid

Set in the vibrant Lavapiés neighbourhood, the hostel places you within 1 km of Plaza Mayor, Mercado San Miguel, Puerta del Sol, and the Royal Palace. Many of Madrid's top landmarks - including Gran Vía, the Prado Museum, and Retiro Park - are reachable on foot in less than 20 minutes. The area is packed with cafés, restaurants, and mini-markets, and several metro and bus stops are within 5-8 minutes' walk, making it easy to explore the city without a car. The street can be noisy at night due to nearby bars and foot traffic, so lighter sleepers may want to factor that in.

Accommodation consists of dormitories and private twin rooms. Each bed is equipped with a privacy curtain, and lockers are provided for personal items. Rooms are compact and can feel warm; air conditioning is available but is only switched on for limited hours in the evening, and a fan is provided during the day. Rooms facing the street can be noisy. The twin room includes an electric kettle and heating, and all rooms have shared bathroom facilities with a shower. Towels are not included (rental €3), and bed linens are provided but you need to make the bed yourself upon arrival. Some rooms are in former commercial basements, so they can feel like windowless bunkers.

The hostel does not offer a restaurant, bar, or breakfast. A shared kitchen area provides a microwave, electric kettle, and a table with chairs for eating, but there is no stove, fridge, or cutlery. The surrounding Lavapiés neighbourhood is filled with affordable cafés, tapas bars, and international restaurants within a 1-2 minute walk, including La Escalera de Jacob and Casa Hortensia, so finding a meal nearby is straightforward.
