RELAIS MERULANA GUEST HOUSE, Rome

The guest house is set on Via Merulana, a lively street with numerous restaurants, cafes, and a supermarket just downstairs. Termini Train Station is only 2 metro stops away, offering direct rail connections across Rome and to the airports. The immediate area provides convenient bus and tram stops, making car-free exploration straightforward. The neighbourhood is considered safe and well-populated, though the area around the local station can feel less polished. Walking distance to most major sights is a key advantage, with the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Santa Maria Maggiore all within a 15-minute stroll.

Rooms are individually themed after Italian actors and offer a practical, functional layout. The private bathrooms include a shower, bidet, hairdryer, and free toiletries. Some rooms have a separate wardrobe or closet area. While the building features good soundproofing in some rooms, street-facing rooms can experience traffic noise, and courtyard rooms are notably quieter. Air conditioning is available, though in some units its performance can be affected by filter cleanliness. Beds are generally described as comfortable, with some variation in mattress firmness. Daily housekeeping is provided, including fresh towels and replenishment of coffee pods. The overall feel is practical and well-maintained, though some interior areas show signs of wear and would benefit from repainting.

Each room is equipped with a coffee machine, electric kettle, and complimentary pods, plus pre-packaged sweet items and jams. The surrounding street is lined with a wide variety of restaurants, pizzerias, and cafes within a 2-minute walk - including Ristorante Da Nino, Norcineria e Gastronomia Cecchini, and Danilo Trattoria Pizzeria - providing plenty of dining options for all meals. A supermarket is also located in the same building, allowing guests to stock up on essentials and snacks. The property does not have its own restaurant or breakfast service, so planning meals outside the guest house is expected.

The main leisure offering is bicycle rental, allowing guests to explore Rome at their own pace. Nearby attractions such as the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and the Appian Way are easily reachable by bike. There is no spa, swimming pool, or gym on the property. The surrounding area offers numerous parks and historic sites for walking and sightseeing.

Wi-Fi is free throughout the property, though its reliability can vary - it is suitable for basic browsing but not guaranteed for video calls. Luggage storage is available at no extra charge, which is useful for late departure flights. A shuttle service can be arranged for a fee, but there is no airport shuttle. The building has a lift, and the property is non-smoking throughout. Safety features include CCTV in common areas, fire extinguishers, and key access. Additional services include private check-in/check-out, fax/photocopying at no cost, and the option to request daily housekeeping. Pets are allowed on request with no extra charge.
