Hotel Details

Location

The hotel is on Carolina Beach Road, about 11 km (15 minutes' drive) from Carolina Beach and within a 22-minute drive of Wilmington International Airport.
The location is convenient for beach access and regional attractions. Carolina Beach State Park and Boardwalk are about 12 minutes away by car. Fort Fisher State Historic Site and the North Carolina Aquarium are also within a 22-minute drive. The area around the hotel offers several restaurants, including Rucker John's, Monkeyjunction BWWs, Slainte Irish Pub, Thai Spice, and Tequila Comida & Cantina, all within 0.5 km (a 5-minute walk). An IHOP and a Port City Java are also nearby. The hotel is on a main road with direct access to shopping and services, but the beachfront itself is not within walking distance. The location is best suited for travellers with a car, as public transport options are limited and driving to the beach or airport is necessary.

Accommodation

Rooms are compact and basic, each featuring air conditioning, a flat-screen TV, and free Wi-Fi, but room sizes are small and bathrooms lack ventilation fans.
Accommodation at Spark By Hilton Wilmington Carolina Beach Rd consists of double and quadruple rooms. Each room includes air conditioning, a flat-screen cable TV, an iron, and heating. The bathroom is small and does not have an exhaust fan; the sink is located outside the bathroom in the main room. Rooms have one bed (double rooms) or two beds (quadruple rooms). The property has recently been converted from Best Western to Spark by Hilton and some rooms show signs of older fittings and maintenance issues - worn carpets, musty smells, and humidity problems are noted. Windows can be opened for air circulation, but the building's climate control can contribute to a damp feel. The rooms are basic and suited for short stays where the main focus is on location and price.

Dining

A free continental breakfast is served daily, offering bagels, muffins, cereal, boiled eggs, oatmeal, and coffee - no hot or fresh-cooked items.
The complimentary breakfast is limited to cold continental items. Available selections include bagels, muffins, cereal, oatmeal, boiled eggs, and fresh coffee. No hot dishes (eggs, sausage, waffles) are provided, and the selection is more basic than what is typical for Hilton-brand properties. Coffee is available in the breakfast area throughout the day. There is no on-site restaurant, bar, or room service. For a fuller meal, several restaurants - including Tequila Comida & Cantina, Thai Spice, Slainte Irish Pub, and an IHOP - are a short walk (0.3-2 km) from the hotel. Guests who need more substantial dining should plan to eat off-site.

Wellness and Leisure

An indoor heated pool (open year-round 9:00-21:00) and a 24-hour fitness centre are on site, though equipment and heating have been noted as unreliable.
The hotel features a heated indoor swimming pool, open all year from 9:00 to 21:00. A hot tub is also present, but its operational status has been reported as frequently out of service or with broken heating. The fitness centre is available 24 hours and contains basic equipment, but machines have been noted as broken or poorly functioning. The indoor pool is a usable amenity in cooler or winter months, but heating issues have been flagged in the past. There is no spa or other wellness facilities on the property.

Facilities and Services

Free on-site parking, free Wi-Fi, 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, vending machines, and a safety deposit box are available.
Parking is free and on-site, with no reservation required - a practical advantage for car-based travel. Wi-Fi is free in all areas. The hotel has a 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, and a safety deposit box at reception. Vending machines for drinks and snacks are available, but their stock has been occasionally reported as empty. Fax and photocopying services are free. Housekeeping changes towels every other day and daily room servicing is not standard. A guest laundry is available but costs $10 per wash and takes quarters only - no card payment. No airport shuttle service is provided. Accessibility features include some accessible rooms and facilities for disabled guests. The hotel is non-smoking throughout.

Top Strategic Tips

  • 01

Book expecting an economy-level stay: the property has recently converted to the Spark by Hilton brand but retains older infrastructure; rooms may feel basic and some facilities (pool heater, fitness equipment, hot tub) have been reported as non-functional.

  • 02

Request a room upon arrival only after confirming it is fully cleaned and ready, as check-in delays and rooms left uncleaned after 3:00 PM have been noted.

  • 03

Plan meals outside the hotel: breakfast is limited to continental items (bagels, muffins, cereal, boiled eggs, coffee) with no hot or fresh options, and no on-site restaurant exists; several dining options are within a 0.5 km walk.

  • 04

Use the free on-site parking (no reservation needed) - it is a practical advantage for car-based travel, especially since no airport shuttle is available and the hotel is 22 minutes' drive from Wilmington International Airport.
