Hotel Details

Location

On Magazine Street in the Lower Garden District, Terrell House is a short walk from Morial Convention Center, Union Station and the St. Charles parade route.
The 19th-century house sits at the corner of Magazine and Euterpe, with shops, cafés and restaurants starting right outside - Surrey's Cafe & Juice Bar, Mojo Coffee House, Cherry Coffee Roasters and Fat Boy Pantry are all within half a kilometer. Morial Convention Center and Union Station are a short walk away, and Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is 20 km from the property. The Garden District's historic houses are close by, while Audubon Nature Institute and the Mercedes-Benz Superdome are also accessible. The French Quarter is roughly a 40-minute walk, and the main Mardi Gras parade route on St. Charles Avenue is near enough to walk back and forth easily. Streetcar stops are within walking distance for trips to downtown, Frenchmen Street and Jackson Square, and the surrounding neighborhood is quiet and residential.

Accommodation

Historic rooms and suites span the 1858 main house and adjacent Carriage House, each with a private bathroom, air conditioning, heating, flat-screen TV and tea/coffee maker.
Room types include double rooms, one-bedroom suites with separate living rooms, and apartment-style rooms with kitchenettes (stovetop, refrigerator, dishwasher, kitchenware). Private bathrooms offer baths, walk-in showers or shower/tub combos, free toiletries, bathrobes and hairdryers; some have been recently renovated. Views take in the garden, inner courtyard, quiet street or downtown skyline and bridge. Some rooms open onto a balcony, and the Bridal/Balcony Room adds extra light and access to the large front veranda. A two-bedroom Creole-house unit with one king and one queen bed suits families or groups, and a third-floor arrangement pairs a queen room with a twin room around a small shared common area. Upper-floor rooms are reached by stairs only, so lower-floor or Carriage House rooms are easier for those with mobility concerns. Rooms include work desks, refreshments and branded extras such as lip balm and tote bags; period details like chandeliers, crown molding and 4.3 m ceilings add New Orleans character.

Dining

A Southern breakfast is included: individually plated, served in the dining room or courtyard, with American, buffet, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free choices.
The daily spread includes fresh homemade pastries, pancakes, warm Louisiana-style dishes, grits, fruit salad, juice and coffee. Dietary needs are accommodated - including vegan, gluten-free and egg allergies - and special diet menus can be requested. Staff can prepare breakfast for early-morning departures if asked ahead of time. There is no dinner service on site, so the restaurants along Magazine Street within easy walking distance are the practical option for lunch and dinner; nearby options include Gris Gris, San Lorenzo, Juan's, Joey K's, Cafe Atchafalaya, Lula's, La Petite Grocery, Surry's, Fat Boy's, Bower, Lilly's and Houston's.

Wellness and Leisure

There is no pool or spa; outdoor relaxation centers on the fountain courtyard, garden terrace, patio and veranda, with bike rentals a block away.
The brick courtyard with fountain is the main leisure space, joined by a garden, terrace, outdoor furniture, patio and a front veranda overlooking the property. Inside, the shared lounge/TV area and the grand living/dining room with period décor provide comfortable sitting space. The St. Charles Avenue parade route is close for Mardi Gras viewing, and the Garden District's historic houses make an easy walking route. Bicycles are not kept on site, but blue bike rentals are available within one block.

Facilities and Services

Free WiFi, free daily housekeeping, free luggage storage and free on-site street parking cover the practical needs; pets are accepted on request.
WiFi is free throughout the building. Daily housekeeping and luggage storage are included at no extra charge, and a shared lounge/TV area is available. Parking is free public on-site street parking on Euterpe Street, with no reservation needed and usually ample space. Safety features include CCTV in common areas and outside, smoke alarms, fire extinguishers and key access. The property has a designated smoking area and is non-smoking throughout. The entrance is on the right side of the building, late check-in can be arranged, and staff provide local activity and restaurant recommendations. An invoice can be provided, and the courtyard and main-house rooms are set up for weddings, brunches and private gatherings, with event planning and catering handled on site.

Top Strategic Tips

  • 01

Request a lower-floor or Carriage House room if stairs are a concern; upper-floor rooms are reached by stairs only.

  • 02

Use the free on-site street parking on Euterpe Street, where the property owns both sides of the side street and parking is usually ample.

  • 03

Tell staff the night before if you need to leave before breakfast service; early-morning departures can be given a plated breakfast.

  • 04

Allow about 40 minutes to walk to the French Quarter, or use the nearby St. Charles streetcar for parade-route and city-center trips.
