THC BERGANTIN HOSTEL, Madrid

The location is exceptional for sightseeing: all major attractions are within walking distance. Sol metro station provides direct connections to Madrid-Barajas Airport (Line 8 from Nuevos Ministerios) and Atocha train station. The airport bus stop is a 10-minute walk away. The surrounding streets are packed with bars, restaurants, and shops, including Rosi La Loca Taberna and Taberna Malaspina within 300 metres. However, the ground-floor bar and late-night street activity can cause significant noise until the early hours, especially in street-facing rooms.

Each room includes a private bathroom, air conditioning (heating mode available), flat-screen TV with cable/satellite channels, and free toiletries. A hairdryer and kettle are available on request from reception. However, many rooms are described as very small - some with only one bedside table due to space constraints - and the furniture is often old, with squeaky beds and worn mattresses. Noise from neighbouring rooms and the street is common; a few units have double-glazed windows that help when closed. Some bathrooms are extremely compact, and a few rooms lack a window. Daily housekeeping and towel changes are provided. The hostel occupies the fourth floor of a historic building and is served by a lift.

The hostel does not operate its own restaurant, bar, or breakfast service. There is no guest kitchen. However, Puerta del Sol and the surrounding streets offer hundreds of eateries, from traditional tapas bars to international fast food and vegan-friendly spots. Notable nearby options include Bacoa (burgers), Museo del Jamon (classic Spanish), and Inclan Brutal Bar (cocktails), all within 300 metres. Staff are happy to provide personal recommendations for local restaurants and can help with dinner bookings.

There are no on-site wellness facilities such as a pool, spa, or gym. The primary leisure value comes from the location: the Royal Palace, Plaza Mayor, Gran Vía, and the Prado Museum are all reachable on foot within 10-20 minutes. The area is also rich in bars and live music venues, making it ideal for those who want to experience Madrid's vibrant street life and nightlife directly from the doorstep.

The 24-hour reception team is known for being welcoming and helpful, providing maps and restaurant recommendations. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout. Luggage storage after check-out is free for one day only - a practical perk for late flights. Daily housekeeping includes towel changes. The hostel offers a tour desk and can arrange airport transfers by taxi (20 minutes) or bus (45 minutes). There is no on-site laundry service. Kettles, hairdryers, and irons are available on request from reception. No private parking is available, but the central location makes car use unnecessary for most visitors.
