The hotel sits in the centre of Austin's nightlife and cultural corridor. 6th Street is literally outside, so noise from bars and street activity can carry well past 2 AM, especially on weekends. The Capitol is less than 1 km away, and Shoal Beach is about 12 minutes on foot. Getting around on foot is easy for most downtown destinations, but street closures around the hotel during events can heavily disrupt driving and ride-share pickups. For the airport, Uber or Lyft are the best option since the hotel has no shuttle.

Rooms are very small - comparable to a New York studio - and the bathroom design is unconventional: the toilet sits inside the shower enclosure, separated by a glass partition. The only sink is in the main room on a combined desk/vanity, which can leave puddles on work surfaces. Storage is minimal; there is no closet, and the only place for luggage is the floor. Floor-to-ceiling windows open the space visually, and corner rooms with city or pool views feel brighter. Air conditioning works well but the system can be noisy. Hypoallergenic bedding, a flat-screen TV, safe, iron, and a pour-over coffee setup are provided. Earplugs and a white-noise machine are placed in each room. This room works best for one person with a single carry-on; it feels tight for two people, and anyone needing a desk or private bathroom should look at the Thompson side of the property.

Fifth Street Diner serves an American and à la carte breakfast daily (7:00-10:00 AM) for a $25 surcharge; it also operates for lunch. The diner is a reliable spot for a sit-down breakfast, though service can be slow during peak hours. Arriba Abajo on the rooftop is a family-friendly American restaurant offering lunch, dinner, and cocktail hour, with vegetarian options. The food and atmosphere are consistently praised - fajitas, churros, and the Mexico City Shrimp Ceviche are standouts. The Royale Room is the hotel's main bar, open Tuesday to Saturday from 5:00 PM. There is also a coffee shop in the lobby with good coffee and pastries. Several nearby restaurants including Parkside, The Best Wurst, and Friends Bar are within a 2-5 minute walk.

The rooftop pool is open year-round and has a fence, pool bar, sun loungers, and towels. It is shared with the Thompson and occasionally with external events, so it can become crowded on weekends - access for hotel guests is not always exclusive. The fitness centre is one of the best hotel gyms in Austin: spacious, 24/7, free to use, with personal trainers and yoga classes available. A free golf simulator, free live music and DJs, and nightly entertainment (evening entertainment is included; bike tours and happy hour are available for an additional charge) round out the leisure options.

Wi-Fi is free throughout. The 24-hour front desk offers express check-in/out, safety deposit boxes, ATM on site, and luggage storage. The hotel is wheelchair accessible with features such as grab rails and braille signage. Pets are allowed at no extra charge. Valet-only parking costs $59 plus tax per night; it includes in/out privileges but can be slow at peak times. Electric vehicle charging stations are available.
