AMERICAS BEST VALUE INN & SUITES - SOMA, San Francisco

The hotel sits on a side street in the South of Market (SoMa) neighbourhood, about 1 km from Civic Center BART station and Market Street tram stops, offering direct connections to Union Square, Fisherman's Wharf and the airport. It is within walking distance of the Folsom Street Fair area and many tech offices. The immediate vicinity is lively, with several bars, a nightclub, Thai and ramen restaurants, and a grocery store all within a 3-5 minute walk. Market Street is a 10-15 minute stroll. At night, the block can feel less tourist-oriented, so walking alone very late is not recommended for all travellers. The area has a visible homeless population, which is common across central San Francisco, but daytime walking feels safe and well-trafficked. The location is ideal for those who prioritise walkability to nightlife, dining and public transit over a quiet residential setting.

Accommodations range from compact rooms with double beds to spacious corner rooms with a king-size bed. All have a private bathroom (some with a bathtub and separate shower), a mini-fridge, microwave, television with cable channels, ironing facilities, heating and free Wi-Fi. Air conditioning is not available; windows open, but rooms above the bar or near the street can be noisy, especially on weekend nights. Soundproofing is limited - the building is older, with creaky floors and thin walls, so noise from neighbours and plumbing is common. Some rooms have a desk and closet space. The decor is old-fashioned, and carpets in hallways and rooms may show wear. Cleanliness is reported as inconsistent, so inspecting the room upon arrival is advisable. Bedding is generally clean and comfortable. A lift serves all floors.

Breakfast is a self-service grab-and-go setup in the lobby: individually wrapped pastries, muffins, and fruit-based baked goods, plus coffee and orange juice. There is no hot food, eggs, cereal, yogurt or made-to-order service. Coffee is only available during the 7-10 a.m. breakfast window. For a fuller meal, several restaurants are within a 3-minute walk - including Iza Ramen SOMA, Basil (Thai) and Bloodhound - plus a grocery store on the same block. No restaurant, bar or room service is available in the hotel itself.

There are no wellness or fitness amenities at the property. The main leisure draw is the lively South of Market neighbourhood, with numerous bars (including Bloodhound and Terroir within a 3-minute walk), live music venues and nightclubs. The hotel itself is located above a bar that can be audible in rooms with open windows.

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. The 24-hour front desk can assist with concierge services, tour desk and fax/photocopying. A free business centre is provided. Luggage storage is available free of charge, allowing early arrival or late departure without carrying bags. Daily housekeeping is included, though it has been described as basic and slow in some periods. Safety features include key card access, security alarm, smoke alarms and fire extinguishers. Parking is not available on site; public parking must be arranged separately at nearby garages for a fee ($30-$200 per night). No pets are allowed. The lift serves all floors. The hotel is a non-smoking property throughout.
