ASIATIC HOTEL - FLUSHING, New York

The hotel sits on a side street in Flushing's bustling Chinatown, 5-6 minutes' walk from the 7 subway station at Main Street. The 7 train provides direct service to Times Square in about 30 minutes during peak hours (45 minutes off-peak). One stop west is the station for Citi Field, making the location practical for Mets games and US Open events. LaGuardia Airport is a short taxi ride (15 minutes, around $15-$20), and JFK Airport is about 35 minutes by taxi or roughly 1 hour via AirTrain and bus. The neighbourhood is safe and lively, with an enormous concentration of Asian restaurants, bakeries, cafes, and shops within a few blocks. However, street parking is notoriously difficult and heavily ticketed, so driving guests should plan to use the validated off-site garage.

Rooms are functional and clean, with air conditioning, heating, parquet floors, a work desk, and an AM/FM alarm clock. Private bathrooms include a hairdryer and free toiletries-though washcloths are not always provided. A mini-fridge and microwave are available on request (subject to availability). Higher-floor rooms offer city views, and some units include a sitting area or sofa bed. Noise can be an issue: rooms on street-facing sides pick up truck and bus rumble during early mornings, and flights from LaGuardia pass overhead. Road-facing rooms are less suitable for light sleepers. A few rooms have reported strong chlorine smells or a cigarette odour seeping through the air conditioning, and some windows have poor insulation. The room size is decent for New York, though some travellers find it compact. There are no balconies. Wardrobe or shelving space can be limited. Overall, the accommodation suits travellers who prioritise a clean, budget-friendly base over modern or spacious interiors.

Breakfast is included in the room rate and is served in a small lobby dining area. The spread typically includes bread, pastries, boiled eggs, cereal, milk, coffee, orange juice, bananas, and a rotating selection of Asian items such as congee (rice porridge), pork buns, dumplings, and pickles. Many find it sufficient for a light start, but it is a fixed continental buffet that does not vary day to day. There is no on-site restaurant, bar, or room service. Instead, the hotel is surrounded by an enormous concentration of Asian dining options within a 2-5 minute walk. A vending machine in the lobby offers bottled water and snacks, and free bottled water is also available from a dispenser. The breakfast room can feel cramped at peak times. Guests who prefer a hot, made-to-order meal may choose to eat at one of the many nearby restaurants instead.

The hotel is well-equipped for practical, no-fuss stays. Free Wi-Fi is available in all rooms and public areas, with generally strong and stable performance. The 24-hour front desk staff can assist with taxis, local recommendations (including nearby laundry addresses), and luggage storage, which is free before check-in and after check-out. A business centre offers fax and photocopying. A minimarket on site and vending machines provide basic snacks and drinks. Security includes CCTV, smoke alarms, and a safety deposit box. There is no on-site parking, but the hotel has a partnership with an indoor valet garage a minute's walk away at 37-20 Prince Street, costing $20-$30 per 24 hours (subject to availability during events). The area is safe and lively at all hours. The lift, family rooms, and facilities for disabled guests are confirmed; however, specific accessibility features should be verified in writing before booking if needed. Laundry and dry cleaning services are not available on site.
