BELNORD HOTEL, New York

The hotel sits on the Upper West Side at 209 West 87th Street, a safe and leafy residential area with a vibrant restaurant row along Broadway one block east. The 86th Street 1-train station is about 50 meters away, offering direct service to Midtown, Times Square, and Downtown in under 20 minutes. Several bus lines stop nearby, and the M86 crosstown bus connects you across the park. Central Park is a 6-minute walk, the American Museum of Natural History is 10 minutes on foot, and Lincoln Center is a 15-minute walk or a quick subway ride. Dozens of well-regarded restaurants, casual eateries, bakeries, and grocery stores (including Key Food and Zabar's) are within a 5-minute radius. Times Square is about 20 minutes by subway, and JFK airport is 50-60 minutes via the A-train and 1-subway connection. The neighborhood is consistently described as quiet (by NYC standards), safe to walk at night, and ideal for both sightseeing and business stays.

The standard room is truly micro-sized - barely larger than the bed itself - with only 2-0.9 m of walkable space around the mattress. Each room has one or two diminutive nightstands, a very small closet (or wall hooks in older rooms), and storage space for luggage under the bed. Bathrooms are equally compact: the toilet sits close to the wall, the sink is tiny, and the shower or tub is tight. A private bathroom with tub/shower is standard, with generally good water pressure and hot water after a 1-2 minute warm-up. There is no in-room refrigerator, coffee maker, or microwave, but a shared mini-fridge, coffee machine, and microwave are available on the 6th floor (and coffee/tea stations on each floor). Rooms feature individual air conditioning and heating units, which can be noisy; renovated rooms have more modern, slightly quieter units. External noise from the street and internal noise from adjoining rooms is noticeable due to thin walls and a gap under the door - rooms facing the back courtyard are quietest. Some rooms have no window or face an interior lightwell; these are darker but quieter. The hotel is non-smoking throughout and offers a lift. This accommodation works best for solo travelers or couples who are out all day and only need a clean, secure place to sleep.

There is no hotel-run restaurant, bar, or breakfast service. A self-service coffee station with a machine providing coffee and hot water for tea is available in the hallway of every floor, along with a microwave and a shared refrigerator on the 6th floor. For morning meals, the surrounding area offers dozens of options within a 5-minute walk: famous delis (Barney Greengrass, Zabar's), bagel shops, bakeries (Kirsh Bakery), and sit-down spots (Jacob's Pickles, Cafe on Broadway). The hotel can provide a voucher for a nearby café breakfast. For lunch and dinner, Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue are lined with pizza places, diners, and mid-range restaurants including Mediterranean (Bodrum), Italian (The Mermaid Inn), and American. A large grocery store (Key Food Fresh) is around the corner, and several late-night food trucks operate on Broadway after show hours. No food is available in the hotel beyond the coffee/tea station, so arrival evening meals are best planned in advance.

Wi-Fi is free in all rooms and generally reliable for web browsing and email, though it can be slower during peak hours. Daily housekeeping is included and changes bed linens and towels; rooms are consistently described as very clean. A luggage storage room is available and free to use before check-in and after check-out - guests can lock their bags themselves. The 24-hour front desk can arrange airport transfers (for an additional fee), order taxis, store luggage, and provide local recommendations. A vending machine for drinks is located in the lobby. The business centre (for a small fee) and meeting facilities are available. Parking is possible at a nearby lot for a fee (no reservation possible), and some guests have found free street parking on 87th Street itself - though this is not guaranteed. Key card access, fire extinguishers, and in-room safety deposit boxes (in renovated rooms) are provided. Laundry service can be arranged through reception. The hotel is fully accessible via a lift. Credit card verification is standard; the friendly and efficient staff check guests in and out quickly.
