HI NEW YORK CITY HOSTEL, New York

The hostel sits on a quiet, safe block just off Broadway, within easy walking distance of Central Park, Riverside Park, and numerous restaurants, cafes, and grocery stores. The 103rd Street station on the 1 line is two minutes away, providing direct service to Times Square in 18 minutes, and connections to the entire subway system. For LaGuardia Airport, take the M60 bus from Amsterdam Avenue at 120th Street. The neighborhood feels secure at all hours, with several Asian, Italian, and American eateries within a three-minute walk. The Manhattan Cruise Terminal is about 6 km away; taxis and ride-shares are the most practical transfer.

All dorms use shared bathrooms, while private rooms include an ensuite. Beds come with a locker (18"W x 35"H x 19"D) - large enough for a backpack or small suitcase - and curtains are fitted on most beds for privacy. Each bunk has a personal reading lamp, USB and standard outlets, and an individual HVAC control. Air conditioning and heating are available but can be noisy; some windows do not open, which may affect air quality. Room size varies: premium and standard dorms offer more space, while economy dorms can feel cramped. For a quieter stay, request a room away from the street and consider a premium dorm or private room. Housekeeping provides fresh linens and towels daily.

The social program runs nightly with events designed to help travelers connect: welcome parties twice a week, free walking tours of Central Park and Harlem, pub crawls, stand-up comedy, and live sports broadcasts. The outdoor patio and garden provide a calm retreat with plenty of seating, picnic tables, and greenery. Indoor leisure includes a games room with billiards, a shared lounge with a TV, and a quiet reading area. There is no spa, swimming pool, or fitness room, but the yoga sessions compensate for the lack of a gym. The indoor play area and family-friendly atmosphere make it suitable for travelers with children.

The hostel is fully accessible: the lobby has a ramp, and an elevator serves all floors (though it can be slow during peak times). Wi-Fi is free and generally reliable in rooms and common areas. The 24-hour front desk can assist with express check-in/out, ATM access, and luggage storage. Lockers are provided in each room and in a dedicated cellar storage area. Laundry facilities on the second floor (08:00-21:00) cost around $5 total. Business services such as fax and meeting rooms are available for an additional charge. Packages can be received for current guests only. Security includes 24-hour CCTV, key card access, and smoke alarms. No on-site parking exists, but street parking and a paid garage (Quikpark at Amsterdam & W100th) are a short walk away.
