BEST WESTERN PLUS SAN PEDRO HOTEL & SUITES, Los Angeles

The hotel sits on a busy intersection of Gaffey Street, within walking distance of fast-food chains like Taco Bell, El Pollo Loco, and a 7-Eleven. A free Metro bus stop is adjacent, offering connections to the Metro rail system for reaching downtown LA, Long Beach, and other areas. The neighbourhood experiences significant car and emergency-vehicle noise, especially in street-facing rooms. The area has a mix of active businesses and vacant retail, so walking at night is less comfortable. For cruisers, the adjacent freeway and direct route to the port make this a practical base, while LAX is about 30-40 minutes by car or shuttle.

Rooms are large and typically include a king or two double beds, a work desk, a coffee machine, and a private bathroom with a shower-over-bath setup. The décor is dated, showing older carpets, curtains, and furniture, but the beds are consistently praised for comfort. Air conditioning and heating are available, though some units are old and can be noisy. Thin windows mean street-facing rooms hear traffic, sirens, and motorcycles throughout the night - a pool-facing room is notably quieter. Some rooms have a balcony or terrace. Lighting is adequate, and storage is generous. Elevators are old and slow, and the hotel lacks soundproofing between rooms, so noise from hallways and adjacent rooms may carry.

The outdoor pool and hot tub are free for guests and open all year, although both have been noted as occasionally closed for maintenance or broken. The fitness centre contains a treadmill, elliptical, and weight machines - some equipment can be dated or out of service. Towels are not always available at the pool area. There is no dedicated spa, sauna, or children's play area. The business centre provides free computer access, but printing requires front-desk assistance.

Wi-Fi is free in the business centre and works adequately across the property. The front desk operates 24 hours and can assist with luggage storage - useful for early arrivals. Daily housekeeping is included, though some rooms have reported inconsistent servicing. A free shuttle to the San Pedro cruise port runs several times in the morning and must be reserved the day before; it seats up to 7 passengers. Guest laundry is available (self-service). The hotel has secure key-card access to floors, CCTV in common areas, and smoke alarms. The parking garage is enclosed but has been described by some as unsafe due to limited surveillance and incidents of theft. Safes are located near the lobby (not in rooms). The property is wheelchair-accessible, but some bathrooms have only a bathtub, which may not suit all mobility needs.
