BEST WESTERN PLUS SOHO HOTEL, New York

The hotel sits on a quieter side street near the Canal Street subway station, offering easy rail access to Midtown, Times Square, and both LaGuardia (15 km) and JFK airports. Within a 7-minute walk you will find Bloomingdale's SoHo, and the National September 11 Memorial & Museum is 2 km away. The immediate area blends the galleries and boutiques of SoHo, the restaurants and markets of Chinatown, and historic Little Italy. Landmarks such as One World Trade Center (2 km) and Brooklyn Bridge are easily walkable, while ice-skating and boating are options nearby. The neighbourhood has a busy, vibrant character; street-front rooms can pick up noticeable traffic and ventilation noise. For quieter rest, a courtyard-facing room is recommended. Several casual and inexpensive eateries, from dumpling houses to pizza places, are within a 3-minute walk, offering a practical alternative for lighter meals outside the property.

Rooms are newly renovated and feature a contemporary design with a functional layout. Each room includes a mini-fridge, Keurig coffee maker (with regular, decaf, and tea), safe, hairdryer, iron, and a smart TV with Netflix. All queen rooms have windows. Standard queen bedrooms have showers only; bathtubs are available only in the two accessible rooms. The room sizes vary: some guests find them compact, especially for two people, and storage is limited to a few wall hooks rather than a wardrobe or dresser. Noise insulation can be inconsistent - doors can slam loudly in the hallways, and street-facing rooms experience traffic and ventilation noise (earplugs are provided). The central heating and cooling system is managed by the hotel; guests cannot adjust it in the room. Reports indicate that the temperature can be unreasonably hot or cold depending on the season, and some windows may not close fully. For a more reliable sleep environment, choose a room on a higher floor facing the courtyard. Rooms are generally clean on arrival, though some have noted occasional inconsistencies in bathroom cleanliness and towel condition.

The breakfast buffet is included in the room rate and provides a practical start to the day, featuring scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, bagels, pastries, yoghurt, fresh apples and bananas, cereals, and a waffle maker. Coffee, tea, and water are available for free 24 hours in the lobby. The breakfast room is located on the C level, where a microwave is also available for guest use. While many find the breakfast adequate and convenient, recent experiences note that the selection can be limited and the quality of items such as eggs can be inconsistent. The buffet can be busy at peak times (around 7 am on weekends), and replenishment may lag. For a lighter meal, a minimarket and a snack bar on site offer drinks and packaged items. The hotel's location also places you steps away from a wide range of Asian and American eateries, including a dumpling house, pizza place, and pho restaurant within a 3-minute walk.

The free fitness centre is available 24 hours a day and is equipped with modern cardio and weight-training machines. It is clean and well-maintained, though small in size - suitable for a short workout rather than an extended session. There are no spa, pool, jacuzzi, or sauna facilities on site. For leisure beyond the gym, the surrounding SoHo and Chinatown neighbourhoods offer walking tours, shopping, dining, and cultural attractions. The hotel also has a shared lounge and TV area where guests can relax with a free coffee or soft drink. Seasonal activities such as ice-skating and boating are available within a 2 km walk, but are not part of the hotel's own offerings.
