The Lodge is situated directly adjacent to Duke University Hospital, the Eye Center, and the Cancer Center, making it the closest accommodation for patients and their families. The VA Medical Center is also across the street. Downtown Durham is 5 km away, with a variety of restaurants and shops reachable by car. A bus stop is located on the corner near the hospital, providing additional local transit options. Cary and Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) are about a 20-minute drive (taxi ~$40). For Duke University West Campus, it is approximately a 1-3 km walk, though the route is not well signed and involves stairs. The area around the hotel is convenient but has been described as having some safety concerns; on-site parking is free but may fill up during peak times.

Each of the guest rooms features a microwave, refrigerator, Keurig coffee maker, flat-screen TV with cable channels, free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and heating. The bathrooms are shower-only (no tubs), with free toiletries and a hairdryer. Rooms are simply furnished with parquet floors, faux brick accents, and a wardrobe or closet. Some rooms have a seating area. The bedding has been described by many as firm, and pillows vary between soft and very firm options. Room sizes vary: some are rated as spacious, others as tight or compact. Ground-floor rooms and those near elevators or the front of the building have been noted for higher noise levels, while some rooms on higher floors are reported as quiet. The air conditioning units are window-mounted and can produce noise; some rooms have experienced high humidity or musty odors. Lighting inside rooms is often dim, and the window coverings are effective blackout curtains. Accessible rooms are available with a roll-in shower, grab rails, and emergency cord in the bathroom.

The Lobby Café offers a selection of specialty coffees (including mochas and lattes), breakfast sandwich options, pastries (such as blueberry muffins), and a snack bar with packaged items. All food and drinks must be purchased; there is no complimentary breakfast or free coffee service in the lobby. The café menu is limited, and some items may be pre-packaged rather than freshly prepared on site. Outside of the café's hours-and all day from 13:00-no food or drink service is available. Several restaurants are within a short walk or a 5-minute drive, including Mediterranean Grill and other casual dining options in the area. There is no restaurant or room service on the property.

The hotel offers a 24-hour front desk with express check-in/check-out, free luggage storage, and a safety deposit box at reception. A free shuttle service operates Monday through Friday from 7:00 to 19:00, transporting guests to and from Duke University Hospital, the Duke Cancer Center, the Duke Eye Center, and other Duke medical facilities on the main campus. The shuttle does not serve airport or Duke Regional Hospital. The property is fully non-smoking and has a lift, wheelchair-accessible rooms and common areas, Braille and tactile signage, and accessible parking. Meeting/banquet facilities and fax/photocopying are available for an additional charge. The hotel does not have laundry services for guests but can provide directions to nearby laundromats.
