DAS FEUERSCHIFF, Hamburg

The ship sits in a marina directly on the Elbe, within easy walking distance of the Elbphilharmonie, Miniatur Wunderland, and the historic Speicherstadt. The U-Bahn station (U3) is a few minutes' walk, providing direct connections to Hamburg Central Station and the airport. The surrounding area offers numerous restaurants, cafés, and bars. For those arriving by car, the Madison or Elbphilharmonie car parks are the closest options, as no on-site parking is available. The promenade along the harbour is ideal for evening strolls.

The accommodation consists of original sailor's cabins, featuring bunk beds (often upper and lower bunks) with comfortable mattresses. Each cabin has a private bathroom with shower and hairdryer, free toiletries, a work desk, wardrobe, safe, and carpeted floors. Cabin sizes vary; some are very compact (approximately 10 m2) which is typical for a ship. The portholes do not open, and there is no air conditioning - cabins can become warm and stuffy, especially during summer. A small fan is provided. The ship can be noisy, particularly during events; earplugs are supplied. Cabins with lower bunks or larger layouts (e.g., cabin 6, cabin 8, captain's cabin) are more accessible for those with limited mobility. No TV is available in the cabins.

The restaurant offers German dishes for brunch, lunch, and dinner, with vegetarian and vegan choices. The bar serves drinks, including a house beer, and guests can enjoy the stern deck with views of the Elbphilharmonie. Breakfast (€10) is served at the table, with bread rolls, cold cuts, cheese, eggs, jam, Nutella, coffee, orange juice, and a small salad - described as simple but adequate. Breakfast can become busy; service may be slower during peak times. For larger or more varied meals, many restaurants (e.g., Caramba Especial, Espresso House, The Greek) are within a 10-minute walk.

The Feuerschiff does not have a spa, swimming pool, gym, or wellness centre. For relaxation, guests can use the bar, enjoy the deck views, or explore the surrounding harbour area, which includes an ice-skating rink and boat rental opportunities. The unique atmosphere of staying on a historic ship itself provides a leisure experience distinct from standard hotels.

Wi-Fi is free throughout the ship. The 24-hour front desk handles check-in, luggage storage, and queries. Pets are allowed (charges may apply). The ship has no lift, and access to cabins involves stairs; guests with mobility issues should consider this. The bar and restaurant areas are accessible via stairs. The hotel is not equipped with air conditioning or openable windows in cabins, which can affect comfort in warm weather.
