HAMPTON INN HOUSTON I-10 EAST, TX, Houston

Minute Maid Park is 12 km away, George R. Brown Convention Center 13 km, and Houston Zoo 18 km. Downtown Houston is about 11 km or 15-20 minutes by car, and the property works well as a stopover on the route towards Galveston. The immediate surroundings are rundown, and pedestrian activity around the parking lot is noticeable, so keep the car locked and avoid leaving valuables in view. A car is effectively necessary for getting around; the gated on-site parking makes this practical. The entrance is easy to miss from the interstate, so slow down and watch for signage. Several fast-food, grocery and convenience options are within about 5 minutes' drive.

Double rooms have one bed, while quadruple rooms have two beds; no four-bed configuration exists. Each room includes air conditioning, heating, soundproofing, a hairdryer, ironing facilities and a shower. Balconies and in-room Jacuzzi tubs are not offered. Accessible non-smoking rooms are available: first-floor accessible rooms have a standing shower, while two-queen accessible rooms have a bathtub rather than a standing shower. Some rooms show dated wear such as older non-smart TVs, peeling chair upholstery and slow-cooling air conditioning, and mattresses tend to be firm. Housekeeping standards vary, with occasional pest activity and water-supply interruptions; checking bedding, corners and plumbing before unpacking is worthwhile. The setting is generally quiet despite highway proximity, and room sizes are generous.

The breakfast buffet is the main dining feature and is kept well stocked and clean; hot dishes and make-your-own waffles are part of the spread. A snack bar and minimarket cover drinks, snacks and essentials between meal times. For lunch or dinner, Luby's Cafeteria is 1 km away and Don Rey restaurant is within walking distance; fast food, grocery stores and convenience stores are also within about 5 minutes' drive. Complimentary cookies are offered on Friday evenings, and free coffee, tea and water are available in the lobby. Bottled water at the front desk costs $2.50 per bottle.

The pool area is outdoor only, enclosed by a fence, and includes sun loungers, beach chairs, umbrellas and pool/beach towels. The hot tub/Jacuzzi is free to use and sits near the pool. The fitness centre is free and kept in clean working order. Outdoor furniture and a picnic area are also available. There is no indoor pool and no spa or dedicated wellness centre on site, so the pool, hot tub and gym are the complete leisure offer.

Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel and requires an active stay at the property. Daily housekeeping is included, laundry is available for an additional charge, and cots can be provided for families. The business centre and fax/photocopying are free, while meeting and banquet facilities carry an additional charge. The 24-hour front desk offers express check-in/out, an ATM and free safety deposit boxes; luggage storage is free. Response consistency at the desk can vary by shift, so allowing extra time for check-in is sensible. Security includes 24-hour staffing, CCTV, key-card access and smoke alarms. Wheelchair-accessible rooms and facilities are available, with lift access. The hotel is non-smoking throughout, with a designated smoking area. American Express, Visa, Diners Club, Discover and MasterCard are accepted, and AARP rates are offered.
