HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS SAN DIEGO - RANCHO BERNARDO, AN IHG HOTEL, San Diego

The property features a variety of room types including standard rooms, family suites, and a Presidential King suite with an in-room spa tub. Rooms are generally spacious, with many reporting a comfortable King bed or soft Queen beds and good pillows. Rooms include a flat-screen TV, ironing facilities, tea and coffee facilities, a sitting area, and an in-room safe. Some rooms have a balcony overlooking the parking lot and some suites offer a full kitchenette with a refrigerator, microwave, and cookware. While some rooms are described as well-maintained and clean, others are noted as outdated with stained carpets, scuffed furniture, and an odor. Noise levels can be an issue due to thin walls, adjoining doors, and road noise from the I-15. The air conditioning units can be effective but are also reported as loud. Rooms facing the freeway or the parking lot are generally noisier. For a quieter stay, requesting a room away from these areas is recommended. Some suites have two bathrooms (one on each level) and some rooms feature a separate vanity sink outside the main bathroom, which is helpful for groups.

This property includes a free daily breakfast buffet for all guests. The breakfast often features rotating hot items such as scrambled eggs, omelets, pancakes, and turkey or pork sausage, as well as cold options like fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals, bagels, pastries, and cinnamon rolls. The breakfast is generally well-regarded for its quality and variety, with gluten-free bread sometimes available. Breakfast is served until 10:30 AM, allowing for a late start. However, the breakfast area is small and can become very crowded during peak times, making it difficult to find a seat. Taking breakfast back to the room is a common workaround. The hotel also offers a vending machine for drinks and snacks. Several restaurants are within walking distance for other meal options.

Leisure facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, a separate jacuzzi, and a fitness centre. The pool is described as small but is often clean and quiet, offering a pleasant spot for a dip. The fitness centre is equipped with two treadmills, a stationary bike, and an elliptical machine, and is noted for being clean and well-maintained. There is also a golf course within 3 km of the property. The outdoor jacuzzi has been noted as sometimes unavailable due to pandemic-related restrictions, and guests have reported that the in-room spa tubs (in the Presidential King suite) can sometimes be out of order.

The hotel offers free on-site public parking with a garage and accessible spaces, though the lot can be tight and occasionally full. Free Wi-Fi is available in public areas. A 24-hour front desk provides concierge service, luggage storage, and express check-in/check-out. A business centre with fax, photocopying, and meeting facilities is available. Daily housekeeping is only provided upon specific request at the front desk, not automatically. Laundry facilities are available for a fee. Security features include 24-hour security, CCTV, security alarms, and safety deposit boxes. The hotel is a designated smoking area and has non-smoking rooms throughout. Room keys can sometimes demagnetize
