HOSTAL BARRERA, Madrid

Set on Madrid's main Atocha street, the hostel sits between the Habsburg and Bourbon districts, connecting you to the Prado, Reina Sofía and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museums within a 7-minute walk. Retiro Park, Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol are all reachable on foot (15 minutes to Sol by bus). Atocha Metro Station (Line 1) is 400 m away, and Madrid-Puerta de Atocha train station is 2 km - about a 10-minute walk. The Express Bus from the airport (€5) drops you 150 m away, and the Cercanías train from T4 (€3, 26-30 minutes) arrives at Atocha station. Despite the central location, the area is quiet at night and feels safe, with a supermarket opposite, bus stops outside, and multiple restaurants and cafés within a 2-minute walk.

All rooms include a private bathroom with shower, free toiletries, flat-screen TV with satellite channels, work desk, wardrobe, hairdryer, electric kettle and a safe (€1 per use). Double-glazed windows with acoustic and solar control, plus shutters, keep rooms quiet and dark at night. Rooms on side streets are quieter than those facing the main road. Air conditioning and central heating are seasonal. Bed linen and towels are provided. Daily housekeeping is included. Room sizes vary from compact singles to spacious doubles and triples; some rooms offer city views. No balcony is available. The property is non-smoking throughout, with a €250 penalty for smoking in the room.

Hostal Barrera does not serve breakfast, lunch or dinner. There is no on-site restaurant or bar. The surrounding area offers a wide variety of dining choices within a 2-minute walk, including steakhouse, tapas, Korean, Italian and Spanish options. Several cafés nearby provide breakfast. Tea, coffee and water are available in the room (kettle) and sometimes at reception. For tapas and drinks, the Barrio de las Letras is a short stroll away.

There are no wellness facilities at the hostel: no swimming pool, no spa and no gym. Retiro Park, one of the largest historical parks in Europe, is a short walk away and provides green space for walking, relaxing or jogging. The Paseo del Arte - Prado, Reina Sofía and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museums - is the primary leisure draw, all within 7 minutes on foot.

Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. Luggage storage is available at no charge for early arrivals or late departures. Daily housekeeping is included. The reception desk offers tourist information, maps and guide books. A lift is provided but you must climb a few steps to reach it; all accommodation is on the second floor. Key card access and CCTV in common areas provide security. No airport transfer service is offered. The Express Bus (€5) and Cercanías train (€3) are the recommended public transport options from the airport. No lounge area for working is available. Invoice provided upon request.
